Masterworks of Oakville to perform Handel's 'Samson' Masterworks of Oakville Chorus & Orchestra will close out its season with Samson by George Frideric Handel. The ensemble will perform the classic on Saturday, April 28 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, April 29 at 3 p.m. at St. Andrew Catholic Church (47 Reynold St, Oakville). "Both choristers and orchestra are rehearsing hard to make their upcoming performance of this beautiful but seldom per formed Handel oratorio one of their best to date. It is sure to be a concert that shouldn't be missed," said Masterworks' board president Avril Kruger. Samson was first performed to rave reviews, at Covent Gar den in London in 1743, just one year after the debut of Messiah. "Handel was such an amazing composer, everyone knows Messiah, but he wrote many other oratorios that are really of equally high quality. More or less, it's just the subject matter that distinguishes Messiah. There are so many wonderful mel odies and glorious choruses in Samson, one entertaining tune after the other, we know that everybody will like it!" said Mas- terworks' music director Charles Demuynck. Tickets are $30 adults, $25 senior and $10 for students. Chil dren 10 and under are free.
