Pictured here with some of his supporters, Cowan finished second at the recent Quebec sailing championships. Cowan hoping to qualify for world championships (Continued from page D1) national and continental championships, including the Canadian nationals and the North Americans. Cowan is hoping to qualify for the world championship again as well as making the Canadian national sailing team. The next six months are critical for Cowan as he is sitting at the top of the Canadian Olympic Sailing circuit. He has to give a big push before the Olympic selection regatta in Kingston next May. Cowan would like to thank all the companies who donat ed items to the silent auction portion of his fundraising event. He would like to thank all of those who came out, and his sponsors: Oak-Land Lincoln Mercury (donated the use of a Ford Windstar for the season), Pioneer Petroleums (fuel for the season) and Pro Rainer sailing gear. For more info or to receive Nathan's newsletter, email him at cowannathan@hotmaomil.c or call (905) 632-9499. Lightning are fit to be tied The Oakville Lightning U-10A rep boys soccer team tied Bolton 2-2 in league play, June 7 at Shell Park. The Lightning controlled most of the game and were unlucky to connect on numerous chances to win by a wide margin. Their hard efforts did pay off, however, with David Maduri scoring both goals. Assists went to Michael Traynor, Garret Mott and Cameron Ojeda. House league tourney cham ps In the recent Joe Hinnen Memorial house league tourna ment, the boys U-13A team, H R Vision, won their champi onship with a lot of heart and determination. In round robin play, HR Vision won 4-0 over GMAC, 4-2 over Trafalgar Property and 4-1 over Colorworks. Striking for HR Vision were Dave McLauglan (4), Daniel Hannigan-Daley (4), Brian Alves(2), Josh Cunneyworth and Jonathon Clark. Stellar netminding by Mike Krmencik and solid defensive play by Sean McLelland, Michael Gretton, Sean Turner and Tim Welham kept the goals against low. The final game against Tripar, played under the sear ing sun, showed tremendous effort by all. Dominating the midfield were Will Sullivan, Peter Krmencik and Adam Jacklin. Leading the offence in the final was attacking midfielder Hannigan-Daley hitting the net four times. Rounding out the scoring were Cunneyworth and Mike Krmencik who came out of the net for the second half. Maintaining the shutout was Welham with a brilliant save on a penalty shot. Dogged determination of right winger Ryan Szyiko kept the ball on the attack. The final tally was 6- 0 .
