Wednesday, June 16, 1999 THE OAKVILLE BEAVER C3 Show DacHfou Love H im This Fathers Day Men are not really so hard to buy for Men--they're so hard to buy for! Last on our list and hardest to please. But this doesn't have to be true. Even the man who has everything can be easy to shop for. What should you get? More of what he already has, of course. Do clothes really make the man? With the new styles we'll see this year, you may find clothes that make your man a little more relaxed and "real" looking. The outdoorsman is in and looking great. Brushed looks in cotton and flannel shirts, pants and jackets give the impression of a tougher man. Sports leather outerwear is more popular as well. Velvet, suede, Nubuck, Ultra Antique Cow and Waxy Lamb are Happy Anniversary, Father's Day! This year marks the unofficial 90th anniversary of the celebration of Father's Day. William Jackson Smart of the United States is credited with being the inspiration for the modem Father's Day. Smart was a widower and Civil War veteran who was both father and mother to his six children. Smart's daughter thought of the idea for Father's Day in 1909 while listen ing to a Mother's Day sermon at church. Through her efforts, interest in Father's Day spread and although many people recognized Father's Day through the subsequent years, the holi day was not made official until 1972. Now, Father's Day is celebrated every year on the third Sunday in June. Hallmark Cards, Inc. is the world's largest manufacturer o f greeting cards and other personal expression prod ucts. Hallmark was founded by Joyce C. Hall in 1910 and currently employs more than 740 artists, designers, styl ists, photographers, writers, and edi tors who develop nearly 20,000 prod ucts each year. Hallmark is also the proud parent company o f Binney & Smith, which owns Crayola, Revell Monogram, and Silly Puddy. In Canada, there are 300 Gold Crown locations and to find the store nearest you, call I-800-Hallmark. some of the styles in leather. Colours also play a part in the out door style. We can expect to see a lot of leaf colors for slacks as well as shades of olive and sage. Blue-green tints are coming, too, such as alpine green, spruce green, teal green, moss and hunter green. Men are taking a more relaxed look; maybe this new look will make them feel more relaxed, as well. If your man doesn't want clothes, maybe he would like some new golfing props. Several new golf balls are on the market. One golf ball is said to produce maximum velocity, longer distance and uncanny accuracy. Other new items include neon golf balls and "floaters" that won't sink to the bottom of water hazards. New golf clubs are another idea. One club is a pitching wedge, sand wedge and lob wedge all in one. Other new gadgets include a golf ball monogram- mer or a "golf scope" to judge distance. Although your man may not be into clothes or golf, he will surely love a new toy. Men love to stretch their imagina tions and have fun. Look to find some thing he always wanted as a child---a train set or racetrack, for example. Other, more expensive items such as a dirt bike, 4-wheeler or personal water craft are sure to bring out the childish daredevil in him. If he is a fisherman or boater, visit your local marina--flags, boat bumpers, a new life jacket or that spe cial lure or fishing reel may be just what he'd like. The ideas are endless. With a little creative thinking, you'll find the hardest person to shop for, isn't. b a c k y a r d N a tu r e S t o r e W e 'v e We've added over 2 ,2 0 0 e<\ fe e t to our s to re to help you crea te your own backyard san c tu ary .
