Called by neighbours at midnight that there was a comâ€" motion in the henhouse, the conâ€" stable armed himself with the shotâ€" gun and a flashlight and stole stealthily out of his house to catch ‘the supposed marauder. Shining the fiashlight into the door of the house, he saw something dark slinking past the corner and let drive. Net result, one dead hen. Not satisfied, Constable Fach made a circuit of the henhouse and saw a pair of baleful eyes peering at him from a nearby fence. Up comes the shotgun to Fach‘s| shoulder again and the neighborâ€"| hood resounded a second time to| the roar of the weapon. Result this | time was a beautiful racoon. Fach says he‘ll eat the coon but hasn‘t the heart to eat his pet hen. Of course the buckâ€"shot with which the hen will be loaded now might have something to do with his atâ€" titude towards the dead hen.
