THE INDEPENDENT, ONTARIO The Corporation of the Municipality' of the Village of Grimsby, met for its I first meeting in the office of William Forbes, on Tuesday, February 22 at! the hour of 7 p.m., and made their qualifications and declarations. \Mem-! bers present: John H. Grout, Reeve; ’ Councillors: â€" William Forbes, Jasg. N. Terryberry, Beverly R. Nelles. Moved by William Forbes, seconded i by Jas. N. Terryberry, and resolved | that the Township Council be notiâ€" | fied by the Clerk of this Council that this Council being legally constituted, we have to request that a certified copy of the last revised assessment roll (see Act, Section 5, of the incorâ€" poration of the Village of Grimsby) be furnished this Council, as required by said Act. Carried. Moved by William Forbes, seconded ! by B. R. Nelles and resolved that ! parties holding Liquor Licenses in || this Village be instructed by the 1 i Clerk that they are to pay their fees | i for the extending of said License to @| treasurer of this Corporation and not ! to the Township Council. GROUT, Reeve. 3 The Corporation of the Municipality of the Village of Grimsby met purâ€" suant to adjournment at the Town % Hall on Monday, the 28th day of Febâ€" & | ruary at the hour of 7:30 p.m. Grimsby‘s First Council Members present: John H. Grout, Reeve; Councillors: William Forbes, Jas. N. Terryberry, Beverly R. Nelles, Edagar J. Palmer. E. J. Palmer having made his qualiâ€" fications and declaration prior to this meeting. Minutes of former meeting read and confirmed. Moved by William Forbes, secondâ€" ed ‘by Jas. N. Terryberry and resolved that Jas. 8. Randall be appointed Clerk and Treasurer of this Village at a salary of Forty Dollars ($40.00) per year, duties to include the work ofâ€" Returning â€" Officer, Clerk and Treasurer, and allowance for Voters‘ and Jury Lists,. Carried. ] Moved ‘by E. J. Palmer, seconded by William Forbes that the Reeve of the Village of Grimsby be authorized to purchase such blank books as may. be required for keeping the Records and accounts O0f the Municipality and providing a stamp for the use of the same. Carried. § Moved ‘by William Forbes, seconded by E. J. Palmer and resolved that the Reeve be authorized to get the points definitely settled along the foot of the mountain in order that the Township Clerk may understand the limits in making out our assessment toll. Carried, Moved by B. R. Nelles, seconded by Jas. N. Terryberry, that the Reeve, E. J. Palmer, and the mover be a committee to wait on the Council of the Township of Grimsby to arrange with said Council in all matters conâ€" cerning the surplus or anything that may come up for settlement ‘between the Corporation of the Village of Grimsby and that of the Township of Grimsby. Carried. Moved by William Forbes, seconded by E. J. Palmer, and resolved that under authority of Byâ€"law No. 101 of the Township Council of the Townâ€" ship of Grimsby the following officers be and are hereby appointed for the year 1876: J. P. Muir, Assessor; John Foster, Collector and Assessor of H.W.; A. J. McKay, John W. Duvall and T. J. FParâ€" rell, fence viewers; Edward E. Looseâ€" ley, Auditor. Carried. Moved by William Forbes, seconded by Jas. N. Terryberry and resolved that this Council meet for the desâ€" patch of business on the first Tueday in each month at 7:00 p.m. in the Town Hall. Carried. Moved by William Forbes, seconded by Jas. N. Terryberry and resolved that the Clerk be instructed to enter in the Minute Book of the Council all previous proceedings taken tendâ€" ing to the Incorporation of this Vilâ€" lage. Carried. Moved by William Forbes, seconded by Jas. N. Terryberry and resolved that the thanks of this council ‘be and are hereby tendered to Mr. Walâ€" ter Nelles for his services as Clerk not only during the procuring of the Act of incorporation, but to the apâ€" pointing of his successor. Carried. Moved by E. J. Palmer, seconded by William Forbes, that Shop and Tavyâ€" ern License be raised to the sums of Eighty Dollars ($80.00) respecâ€" tively and that a Byâ€"law be passed to confirm the same. _ Yeas, E.
