THE OAKVILLE BEAVER The Oakville Beaver On the Run Sponsored by Oakville's Running Company, this year's team is set to take on all comers. Winners of the relay race at the 1999 OTMH Classic, the members proudly display Oakville signs and banners at international races and running events as far away as Boston and Detroit. Their individual showings at the recent Kitchener marathon and half-marathon, won by Steve McKinnon, co­ owner of the Running Company and a team coach, did much to advance the reputation of the Oakville team and its members throughout the running and training circuit. The 'Ambassador Team' and the grass roots develop­ ment program that initiated the team are unique. Team members, chosen for their community spirit as well as their dedication to the sport of running, have done much to make Oakville a known hot-spot of running. With many races to be entered, training is now under way from the Running Company where Ambassador Team members can often be found each Wednesday evening, run­ ning and talking running with all who will listen. BEAVER -- i--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Neha Chawla, a Grade 6 student at St. Mildred's Lightbourn School, is a national sil­ ver medalist after placing second in April at the Squash Junior National Championships in Ottawa. Chawla reached the championship round without dropping a*single game, and winning all her matches. It's just one of many highlights that Chawla has already compiled in the sport. Other high­ lights include: • a silver medal in the Ontario Provincial Junior Squash Championship at Ryerson University in March. Again, she reached the final without dropping a game. • a silver medal in the Toronto & District closed women's/men's squash championships at Mayfair Lakeshore in Toronto. She played in the women's C level. • a bronze medal at the U.S. Junior Open U-12 championships at Harvard University in Boston in December. • a bronze medal at the Canadian Junior Open U-12 championships in Newmarket in December. • a silver medal at the Niagara Region Junior Open U-14 in November. Chawla is a very dedicated squash player who loves the game and works very hard at improving her game, not just by hoping but by motivating and organizing herself to develop into a better squash player.
