Dated at the Town o f Oakville this 14th day o f July, 1999. Lynne Gough, Manager Long Range Planning Section Planning Services Department NOTICE TO PUBLIC The Department o f Public Works will be carrying out its annual Surface Treatment Program later this summer over an approximate two (2) week period commencing in late July or early August. Surface Treatment, or "tar & chip" is a form o f road pavement maintenance that the Town carries out annually on its "tar & chip" road inventory. Presently, there are approximately 350 lane kilometres o f "tar & chip" road inventory in Oakville. On an annual basis, the Department o f Public Works re-applies the tar & chip over about 75 lane kilometres o f pavement. Typically, the application frequency is about once every five years in order to maintain a "skid resistant" wearing surface. The roads listed below are scheduled to receive a new application o f "tar & chip" as part o f this year's program. These roads are presently comprised o f a "tar & chip" pavement surface that are due for another application. When the "tar & chip" is first applied, you will notice that the road surface will be loose for a few days. This is normal. As time passes and more vehicles drive over the newly applied surface, the stone chips embed more into the tar and after a few weeks (usually about 4 weeks), the embedding process is generally complete. It is normal for there to remain some loose stone chips throughout after the approximate four week period. Department o f Public Works Operations crews will be in after that time to sweep the excess stone chips. The work will proceed rather quickly. Many roads are completed in one day. We expect that you will experience little or no inconvenience during the actual application. Should your have any questions during the application in your area, a Public Works Inspector can be reached at 815-7617. Should you have any questions prior to that time, please do not hesitate to contact Mr. D. M. Cozzi, PEng., Manager o f Design & Construction at 338-4424. We thank you in advance for your co-operation and patience. R.G.
