Champion file photo Slots payout reaches $100M mark By Melanie Hennessey CANADIAN CHAMPION STAFF The Town of Milton recently hit the jackpot with OLG Slots at Mohawk, officially reaching the $100â€"million mark in payments it receives for hosting the casino. Late last month, the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation issued a thirdâ€"quarter payment to the Town of $1,098,380, bringing its nonâ€"tax gaming revenue total to $100.6 milâ€" lion since August 1999. The milestone was lauded by Mayor Gord Krantz, who was instrumental in bringing the casino to the Milton racetrack. "It (slots revenues) really has benefitâ€" ted this municipality," he said. "There are projects that have happened in this community, whether it be infraâ€" structure, facilities, equipment and more that certainly would‘ve been delayed five, 10 or even 20 years without that $100 million. It has helped us in many, many areas." A portion of the slots dollars reâ€" ceived is also directed to the Milton Community Fund â€" a Townâ€"adminâ€" istered program that helps support local notâ€"forâ€"profit organizations with cash grants. The fund was established in 2001 and to date has distributed more than $5.9 million to a wide variety of recreation, artistic and cultural proâ€" grams and services that benefit the community. «D
