Festival offers ‘something for everyone; says director The Milton Film Festival presents eight feaâ€" ture flms that will be screened at the fourth annual event on January 27â€"29. The film lineâ€"up was officially unveiled at a press event late last year at the Milton Centre for the Arts by Jennifer Smith, director and committee chair for the Festival, and author and former film critic Ron Base, who serves as the festival‘s host and MC. Films, which will be shown at the arts centre (1010 Main St. East), were chosen by the Fesâ€" tival‘s Selection Committee, which includes Smith, Base, programmer Katherine Pearce, and committee viceâ€"chair Carmen Martino. "Our selection process is truly a collaborative effort," said Smith, "bringing people of differâ€" ing tastes and points of view together to disâ€" cuss, sometimes debate, and eventually disâ€" tilling a‘short‘list of 30â€"40 titles down to eight remarkable and truly distinctive films. "What this means for our audience is a curatâ€" ed selection of films that truly has something for everyone." "Weirdos is a real coup for Milton as it will be screening here even before its broader theatâ€" rical release in February," said Base, who conâ€" firmed the attendance of special guest fhilmâ€" maker Megan Murphy, an experienced actor and a wellâ€"known radio host in her native Peâ€" terborough. Murphy will be presenting her independent documentary feature, Murphy‘s Law on Januâ€" ary 29 and will be participating in a Q&A sesâ€" sion after the film. Also announced was a new partnership iniâ€" tiative with Laurier University. As part of its ongoing effort to present programming that offers a deeper understanding and appreâ€" ciation of film, the Milton Film Festival has invited faculty and alumni from Laurier‘s Film Studies Program to conduct a speakers‘ pane! over the lunch break on the Saturday of the festival in the Escarpment Hall.
