The local not-for-profit organization, which offers free mental health counsel ling to those ages 16 and old er, received the grant in ad vance of Bell Let's Talk Day (Jan.31). "Bell Let's Talk has be come synonymous with mental health," said CMHA Halton's CEO, Radhika Sub- ramanyan. "They are really a champion for recovery and wellness, and their sup port will help our friends and neighbours in Halton get the help they need quick ly and at no cost. The Bell Let's Talk Community Fund is helping to change hun dreds of lives with this grant, and we can't say enough about what it means to us and our entire commu nity." In addition to free walk- in counselling, the CMHA Halton Region branch offers residents an opportunity to speak with qualified coun sellors in one-on-one, hour- long sessions about a wide range of concerns. They can get the support they need to build positive solutions and connect to others who can help. "Bell Let's Talk is pleased to support CMHA Halton Region branch's mental health counselling service for people living in Milton, Burlington, Oakville and Georgetown," said Mary Deacon, chair of Bell Let's Talk. "The 2017 Bell Let's Talk Community Fund pro vided 70 grants to support programs providing mental health services in commu nities around the country and with our recent an nouncement doubling the fund, we look forward to supporting the work of many more groups like CMHA Halton in 2018." On Jan. 31, Bell promised to donate five cents to Cana dian mental health pro grams for every text mes sage sent and every long-dis tance or mobile call made by Bell customers and every tweet with #BeULetsTalk. Five cents will also be donat ed for every Bell Let's Talk Day video viewed on Twit ter, Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat, as well as ev ery time the Bell Let's Talk frame is used on Facebook. The Bell Let's Talk initia tive aims to promote mental health awareness and end the stigma associated with mental health.
