Campbell's keynote address continued the theme o f the Paul Harris Community Awards Fel­ lowship Dinner, hosted by the three Oakville Ro­ tary clubs last week at Le Dome. Six individuals were honoured for signif­ icant contributions to their community. Everyone is awesome and amazing and has their own story to tell, said Campbell, who is touring Rotary clubs speaking about his per­ sonal story. As one o f 57 war or­ phans on the last Canadi­ an Arm ed Forces Hercu­ les flight out o f Vietnam before Saigon fell to the communists, Campbell told a tale o f being mis­ taken for an orphan, placed on a plane bound for Canada, adopted by an Ontario couple and 30 years later, reconnecting with his biological fam i­ ly- "We all have a dash and that dash represents our time here on earth. We heard what these people who just received these awards are doing with their dash; they're doing some amazing things," said Campbell. "These soldiers (Cana­ dian Forces pilots) knew that courage, they knew they had to do something and risked their lives (to bring the orphans to safe­ ty). They did something awesome and amazing with their'dash'." When Campbell met his biological dad, he learned that he was never abandoned, how it was a mistake he was part o f Operation Babylift's mass orphan evacuation and how his family never gave up hope they would find him one day. The course o f his life changed after these reve­ lations. Through his speaking engagements, his book, Orphan 32, and his Hope for the World Productions, Campbell is spreading stories o f self- discovery and inspiration.
