The Eternal Husband, direct ed and co-pro- duced by Philpott, is a contemporary version of Feodor Dosto evsky's novella by the same name. This psycho logical drama portrays an extended duel between two men, Richard Hughes and Paul Babiak, each nurturing the memory of offenses com mitted long in the past. Pushed to emotional extremes, the two men play out their long time rivalry to an inevitable, violent settling of accounts. Philpott, who was born in Winnipeg and raised in Oakville, studied at the Universi ty of Western Ontario. He has made two criti cally acclaimed short films - Scenes from Macbeth (1989, 45 minutes) and Silent DNA (1993, 24 min utes). The latter won the Silver Bear award, Fes tival of Nations, Ebensee, Aus tria. His adapta tion of The Eter nal Husband is his first feature film. He will be shooting his sec ond, Fairy Tales and Pornogra phy, in Novem ber. The Eternal Husband stars Richard Hughes, Paul Babiak and Mireille Dumont.
