Church sang two beautiful selections. Miss Leila Lyoma presidâ€" ed at the organ. In his short funeral sermon, Rev. Heinonen, who married Mr. and Mrs. Maki only six years ago, referred to the beautiful Christian character of the late Mrs. Maki revealed in the Christizn patience and fortitude of her last eighteen months of sickness, and her devotion to her home and husband. The late Mrs. Maki was the daughter of Mr. Gabriel Latvela and his wife, Ann Katarina, nee Luoma. She was born at Alahsrma, Vaasa Province, Finland, on the 28th of February, 1895. She came to Canada in 1927, and settled to hves perma- nently in South Porcupine. during 19368. To mourn her loss she leaves her husband, Henry Maki at 3 Commerâ€" cial Avenue, South Porcupine; two brothers. Vaino Latvala at Garson Mine, Ont.; Frans Latvala at Voltti, Finland: four sisters: Elli (Mrs. Neil Goden,. Toronto):;: Amands (Mrs. Chas. Nelson, Michigan); Hilma (Mrs. Leo Pistokoski): and Sanna Maria (Mrs. Isaac Mannisto), both in Finland. Many beautiful floral tributes were received from friends all over Ontario and elsewhere. In addressing the students, he emâ€" phasized the necessity of working harcâ€""do it beyond the call of duty," he said. "Put more into everything than you expect to get out of it, and. remember â€" graduction from â€" high school has only given you a foundaâ€" tion upon whieh to build." . The speaker stressed the importance of English as a subject; "the farther up the ladder the student ascends, the more important the mastery of the English language. Donald Worth, Valedictorian, thankâ€" ed the people of the community for the beautiful school building which his clzess had appreciated fully. He gave a summary of the year and the students. Of 100 who started in 1946, only 10 of the original number were graduating." Principal Ellis congretulated memâ€" bers of the graduating class. He menâ€" tioned that the school although two years old had not yet lost its new: look. The students had taken good care of it. They were awerded to these students who in the opinion of a committee of students and teachers, had contributed most of the welfare of the school. Florence Price won her "school letter" in 1948; was active on Girl‘s basket ball team, girl‘s volley ball team and various student committees‘; always being resdy and willing to take on extra. curricular duties. At a recent Council meeting, counâ€" cil decided not to erect a $2500 vauls in the cemetery. This vault would have obviated the necessity of digging graves in winter.
