Every once and a while some one wants: a public statement of finances from St. Mary‘s and I wonder how they could work that out since those 20 Sisters get up in the morning at 5 o‘clock and go steadily until 11 at night and no time turned in. The Deâ€" partment of Health sets a salary basis on each type of employment in Hosâ€" pital but no account is taken of the overtime those Sisters put in and while the day help works 8 hours a day they work 16 to 18 hours a day. Browâ€"Bceating Men I know it is easy for a bunch of men to browâ€"beat a bunch of women and lsave them with the feeling which they have,. that they are being insultâ€" ed everytime they have any dealings with the town. Could it possibly be that the Town of Timmins takes advantage of them because they are Sisters of Chsrity working for nothing and supplying the Hospital for Town of Timmins‘ people, who would not have a hospital only for them. With reference to Hospital costs and attitude of council toward it, I have recently received some informaâ€" tion from one of the Trustees of Toâ€" ronto Gencral Hospital in which he states: that he has scen during his time on the board, costs per bed day so from less than $3.00 per day to $8.42 a bed day for 1949 and has foreâ€" éd the Trustees of Toronto General Hospital to notify the Toronto City Council that they will either pay in full ($8.42 per day) for their indigents or else take over the Hospital and run was en 2s a ® A NLAN 3A * 9 . zo mW# Y t yÂ¥ TO THE EDITOR for themselves, by the experience of borrowing at the Bank of Montreal, the full meaning of this message . . . that if your propositio® is sound, there‘s for you at the B of M. Then the counâ€" cil, and people generally, will find out what cheap and good service those 20 Sisters have been giving them and for which they received nothing from general public but a certain amount of abuse. No one tries to help them except a group of ladies who help make dressings. etc. No Training Required Of course you will be told that cerâ€" tain sized hospitals, like Porcupine General cost more per bed day, but on other hand they do not have to train nurses and provide living quarters for them and anyone knows that it costs money for any young person to be trained in nursing or any other skilled occupation. The costs per day have gone up same zs other hospitals Take items of heating as an example, a thing everyone knows about. It has always been estimsted that it costs at least over 10 per cent more to run a hospiâ€" tal in the North than in the South. Taking all these things into considâ€" eration the payment per bed day will have to be doubled at very least.
