Begg spoke earnestly and inspiringly. He made it plain that freedom and all the other blessings and privâ€" ileges enjoyed are only ours so long as we are ready to support and protect them.. There are two kinds of people, he said, "lifters" and "leaners." He urged Timmins Kiwanis club to continue in the "lifter" class. a The evening concluded with a dance, Henry Kelneck and his orâ€" chestra providing the happy music. President Quinn read letters and telegrams of congratulations and good wishes received from Kiwanis International, Toronto Kiâ€" wanis Club, International Trustee Jack Linlater,; the Kiwanis Club of : Sydney, N.S., New Liskeard, South Porcupine places and peoples. Incident#ily, he gave special word of praise to Secâ€" retary Scotty for his good work for the past many years. The president also required A. G. Irving and his "partner in crime," W. R. Rinn, to stand and take a bow for the‘remarkable work they had been doing for crippled children. Mayor Eyre and his lady were also called upon to rise and take a bow. ~The other Pembroke Kiwanians spoke briefly. complimenting Timmins club on its record of achievement and adding good stories. These visiting speakers were: â€" Kiwanians G. R. Bromley, Oscar Landreau, Geo. H. Lemke and Robt. Burns. Kiwanian Christiansen complimented Timmins Club on its long service to the community, and on the fact that there were four of the original members who were‘still meémbers of the club." When Pembroke club had observed a similar.anniversary it had only two such members. Timmins charter members with the club toâ€"day are: W. Rinn, E. H. King, J. E. Sullivan and H. G. Laidlaw. Kiâ€" wanian Rinn has been a membker continuously for the past twentyâ€" five years,, and Mr. Christiansen presented him with the Kiwanis International award certificate and the twentyâ€"five year service pin. Another member to receive similar honour is. Kiwanian Louis Halperin, who completes his twentyâ€"fifth year this month. Lieuâ€" tenantâ€"Governor Begg and the Pembroke delegation were to visit him at his home where he is ill to make the formal presentation. Kiwanian A. B. Horwosd, of the: Pembroke Club, was called upon to introduce the others in the delegation from Pembroke. Hedid this with rare wit and humour,; also taking sly shots at Presiden‘t Quinn and Past President G. N .Ross. As a matter of fact, all the brief addresses of the evening were noteworthy for wit, humour and good story. "I bring you greetings from every Pembroke Kiâ€" wanian," was the way Kiwanian Horwood delivered serious part of his message. He had special regrets from Dan Jones, now of Pembroke, who was unable to come. In introducing E. B. Christiansen, he noted that the latter had been a good Kiwanian for twentyâ€"seven years. While all the cther service clubs in the Porcupine were representâ€" ed at the event, there was special intéerest in the number of Kiâ€" wanis from outside places who were present. South Porcupine was well represented, while Kiwanians were present also from New Liskeard, Cobalt, Kirkland Lake and other places. ; iiud k If El Re Lk ki 3| ud Lo hi ki h V 3 : Aolk k k Lk i t B 92 ol c P M CC C OM n Wt n o oo lc Eoo 5C tb /o Lieutenantâ€"Governor W. The banduet served to the guests was of the usual McIntyre high quality. It was followed by community singing led by Kiwanian Edouard Barlett, with Geo. A. Jenkin at the piano. A féeature of the community singing was the rendition of the club‘s theme song;, "The Boys from Forcupine," written by Secretary W. H. Wilson.
