A Pennsylvania mother of 12 children â€" all but four of whom are full grown â€"has offered to sell one of her eyes to the highest bidder so that she can give her younger children "proper food and a good home‘". To us that is the kind of unrealistic, slefâ€"sacridicâ€" ing nonsense â€" carried to the utmost extreme â€" that keeps a lot of women from meeting life‘s problems in a hardâ€"headed, practical way. "I‘d do ANYTHING for my kids," such women tell themâ€" selves and go off on wild tangets instead of sitting down with the kids and figuringâ€"out a way whereby the whole family, working together, can solve its financial problems. Miss Bernice Kaye of Toronto is holidaying at the home of her mother, Mrs. Agnes M. Kaye, 9 Lakeshore Road. Bermce is Bulletin Editor of this organization . Miss Lucia Wojmk Ph., D. from Toronto is a house guest of the Kayes . . . Prior to taking up residence in Toronto, Miss Wojcik pracmqed psychology at the Rdwm Inhtute of Practical Psycholâ€" ogy at Vancouver. House guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. S. R. McCoy, 121 Tamarack street are Mr. and Mrs. Hans Heinrich of Detroit . . . . Mrs. Heinrich is the former Louise Demers and has the distinction of being the first lady telephone operator in the days when Tim4 mins was young . . . Well known and popular the couple have a host of friends throughout the district and re having a wonder‘ul time renewing acquaintances here. They do it by hardâ€"headed planning by hard work, by coopâ€" eration, and by the certain conviction that unless they pull toâ€" gether they will never lift themselves out of poverty. The sentiâ€" mental will have a field day over this story of a mother‘s offering to trade one of her eyes for security for her young ones. But the mothers who really deserve praise_are those who without dramaâ€" tics hold a family together through bad times, by seeing that every members of the family does what he can do to contribute to the family good. THERE IS NOTHING SO KINGLY AS KINDNESS . . . and members of the Ladjes Auxiliary of the Miners Union Local 241 deserve many fine compliments and much praise for their noteâ€" worthy efforts . . . especially in sending comforts every month to the boys in Christie Btreet Hospital .. . recently they found it a little difficult to keep sending those comforts . . . they contributed the contents of the boxes themselves . . . what with the cost of living rising higher and higher . . . it was nigh impossible . . . but nothing loth they obtained permission ‘to hold a Tag Day A Timmins responded . . . and $251.00 was raised, this they torward- ed to the hospital . . yesterday letter was received from the Deâ€" partment of Veterans Affairs at Christie street Hospital . . . . it was addressed to Mrs. E. Livingstone, Box 449, Timmins, Ontario Undoubtedly this Pennsylvania family is having a rough time of it The father, because of.poor health, cannot work steadâ€" ily. There are four young children between the ages of 7 and 15. But there are older children, too.: Many a family, facing that kind of situation, has pulled together, worked hard, because each memâ€" ber of the family has shouldered a portion of the responsibility, has come through hard times to security. But families don‘t pull themselves out of poverty â€"by wild schemes for quick security or by unrealistic plans for selfâ€"sacrifice. . . . we quote from the copy "Dear Mrs. Livingstone. Thanks for your letter of July 12th. We are glad your Tag Day was so successâ€" ful and sincerely appreciate your continued interest in the welfare of our patients. Yours sincrrely. F. W. Bulson, Hospital Manager." *# â€" The crested spray is flung to the day And cloudlets are flying While in heaven‘s regime, can be heard the scream Of sea gulls crying. and by.
