Ansonvilleâ€"Iroquois Falls Matheson And District Miss Barabara Ann Scott viistsd Iro. quois Falls on Mcnday August 25th: While here Miss Scott was the guest of the Abitibi Power and Paper Co. Ltd. When we first heard that Miss Scoit was going to visit ‘this community we tnought that the above paragraph cover it all very nicely. But since seeing Miss Scott and since hearing of her charm and graâ€" cilousness we have decided to enlarge cour writeâ€"up somewhat. Miss Scott and party of twentyâ€" five, among whom we particularly notâ€" ed Mrs. Clyde Scott, Miss J. Nekolova and Miss M. Sherman , arrived durng the morning and were taken on a tour of the Abitibi Paper Mill. by local Abitibi officials. Following this tour the p5rty luncheoned at" the home of Mr. F. A. Lavalle»s along with many disa nguished local guests. His Worship Mayor P. J. Redamond welcomed Miss Scott and her friends and offered the best wishes and conâ€" gratulations on behalf of all citizens. Mrs. Scott, Barbara Ann and the other noted guisis were then presented with bouquets of local grown ‘gladiolas by the little Misses Katherine Reyâ€" nolds, Margaret Stone and Joy Armâ€" strong. Immédiately after these fesâ€" tivities,â€"â€"during which lccal camera enthusiasts had a field day,â€"â€"Miss Scott and her party were taken on a tour of a pulpwood camp in the Abitibi lim‘sts North of Iroquois Palls, While n the: bush, the party were treated to a real bush camp dnner and as side light a blueberry picking contest was h:ld with prizes of huge blueberry pies for the winner. The trip into the forests land was arranged by Messrs. Stone and McKillop of the Woods Dept. The visitors then left town by their special bus and from all sides we hcard many fine comments from the members of the party on the truly wonderful and fine hospitality accorded them by the leaders of our community. While on the subject of visitors,â€"we have heard from an unofficial source that this ccmmunity is to accorded the honour of a visit by his Excelâ€" iency the Governorâ€"General of Canâ€" ada sometime during midâ€"Septemlber. Viscount Alexander is to be accompanâ€" ced by Lady Alexander and an official party of high state dignitiaries. Full details of this impending visit are to be announced in the near future. And now we have a fish story. Messrs, A. A. Dickson, T. Proudfoot and Mc Phail of the Porcupine Advance staff were recent vistors to our town and while here they indulged in the age old sport of fishing. Our informant told us that not only are they good newspaper men but they are also fin: fishermen. It ssems that they made the largest catch of the ‘"biggest" White fish seen here for many years. To top off this story we must tell you that Mr. McPhail attempted to take photozraphs of their finny catch bus he found to his dismay that h:s camera was not equipped for microscopic phoâ€" tography! The current drive against stray and tagl:ss dogs has led to eight convicâ€" tions in Iroquois Falls. Each citizen was fined the fine of one doliâ€" lar and costs. An outstanding Labour Day céleâ€" bration is scheduled by teh local Unions for next Monday. Many sporting events aure planned and it is Prayerfully hoped that the w:iather man will come through with a fine sunny day. It is to be noted that these Labour Day colebrations are the oldest event cf their kind in the North,â€"this yvear is the twentyâ€"ninth annual cel:brations. The Horticultural show will be held on Thursday August 28th in th Town Hall. Iroquois Falls. This annual show sponsored by the Iroquois Falls and District Hertcultural Society is alâ€" ways the most important fall showâ€" ing <cof Handicraft and garden and kitchen products ever held in this District.
