May we take this opportunity of wishing everyone a Very Merry Christmas and a Bright, Happy and Prosperous New Year. Thne Empire Bowling Academy is carrying out a Christmas Rollâ€"Off s and 2li pinâ€"battering enthusiasts are welcome to drop in and go to work on the problem. The games began on the 17th and will continue to the 3ist. Rules ‘n Regulations for the tangles read thusly: There is no entry fee, anyone is welcome to try; bowlers can enter as often as they wish, games must be run off in rotation of one to five, first high twenty qualify for the finals, and three prizes will be awarded at the end of the final games. Final games, by the way, being held on January 2, at 8 p.m. You just assure yourself that you are just as good with the "boom stick" as anyone else is, call up a friend to come along to witness your efforts and set off with the knowledge that the turkey is practically yours. The shoots are run off in thirties, that is the winning or highest target out of the thirty entitles the holder of said target to one turkey. From there it seems the winners go into a handicap . . . . . We are a little vague on that subject so we will not say more. We may add that you can shoot all the targets you wish out of the thirty ..... so why not drecp in. If you win you get a trukey . . .. if you lose you still get the bird . . . . . That‘s what the friend is for , . . . Joke. Residents cf Timmins have been popping away at the targets for the past two weeks, and from information we gather, the picture seems to be this : No need to chase that turkey all over the barn yard, no need to run the risk of injury or the ruinaticn of your equanimity on a last minute try of getting the Christmas dinner . . . . . no indeed. If you are a bit of a sportsman, possess a fairly good eve for sShootin; all you have to do is browse around to the Turkey Shoot, being conducted by the local Kiwanis Club, on Spruce. The deadlock score was. perhaps the best way for the tilt to end . . . . . It would be a little hard to take a defeat, for either team, after the calibre of play expended .*.. . Both squads can take a bow. Delmonte, Boyce, Tomiuk and Lister played a great game . . . . Too bad Lady Luck didn‘t break down and smile more often . .. Clouthier and Allen turned in commendable efforts on behalf of the Bison machine ..... Netâ€"minders of both squads are alsoa open to praise. Clouthier is one of the fightinges; characters in the league. He made himself quite the nuisance around and about the Macmen‘s basket, digging up plenty of food for thought for the McIntyre defence. Bouquets are in order for Delmonte, Boyce, Tomiuk and the Combines‘ Casanato for their efforts Friday night. They were the shining light in the wide open tangle. Wide open is the word, believe us . . .. . . Ever seen a Bullfight*:.. .:. 2 f One of the hardestâ€"fought tangles witnessed to date on the McIntyre hockey cushion, leaves us with a basketâ€"full of stars. Retaliations to an opinion voiced in this column last week, came shortly after the edition was out. The opinion in question, it is thought, needs no repeating .. . However we wish to make clear the fact, that the verbal expendings herein, are not those of an authority, but rather those of an average "guy" . ... We would hate to voice the opinion of the average "guy" witnessing a particular incident in the first session of the tilt on the McIntyre hockey cushion last Friday night . . . . .. Need we say more? THUHREDAY, DPECFUMBET 20th, 1945 The only beef we have in regard the whole affair is the fact thut we nigh froze to death, going to the game, at the game and staggering home again. We drank cup after cup of coffee, stamped our feet until we nearly ruined our shoes, (along with the odd length of lumber) and almost shook our upper plate loose with the continuual chatter of the ivories. Net result being that we would like to add another little request to our Christmas list. Casanato once again earns a bouquet for playing a great game. He plays a good brand of hockey and we think it safe to wager he‘ll ve going places. We‘d like to add Ray Hannigan‘s name to the list of those in line for mention. He copped the Combine‘s opening goal and turned in a commendable performance for the remainder of the tangle. In cur estimation Maki sparked the Dome boys along all evening. He figured in the upsetting of some threatening plays besides leading many a rush and chalking up a tally and an assist. Checking was heavy and at times tempers became a little frayved. Howâ€" ever, all told the tangle was one of the better brand expended to date. As for picking stars we‘ll take Tomori, Maki and Casanato. Although Tomori sat on the losing side, he turned in a commendable exhibition of netâ€"minding on behalf of the Porkie machine. Throughout the game Tomori made some truly smart saves and was largely responsible for keeping the score down to the narrow oneâ€"goal loss. CHARTERED ACCOUNTANT The game witnessed at the Porcupine arena last night was the second of two hotlyâ€"contested tilts presented to local fans this week. Both the Dome and the Combine machine‘s jumped into the effort with both feet and played a good game although of the two squads involved, the Combines carried the edge insofar as play was concerned. 60 THIRD AVENUE Phone 640 G. Hughie Allen managed to bag the Bison tally at 7.35 with Robinson ringâ€" ing up the assist. McIntyre‘s brace was the work of Lister and Delmonte both of the tallies being unassisted. Checking was heavy, rushes frequent as both nets were subjected to a hail of rubber. Truman made the sole visit to the box on behalf of the Mac Men in the session that began bordering on a rough house spree as a result of the frayed tempers. Delmonte and Patton got together for a little highâ€"sticking and push sesâ€" sion, with neither one actually getting in a good dab. Their efforts merited the pen. Both teams were still fighting hard in the final stanza in an effort to break the deadlock. Prentice was given the nod to the box after dumping Morris, the only other penalty of the opener going to the Bison‘s Ladds. The single tally deadlock came close to being broken on numerous occasions in the second frame. But Lady Luck refused ‘to sniile on either team‘s efforts.
