The sincere sympathy of all in the Porcupine Camp who know the Banâ€" nermansâ€"oldâ€"timers of â€"the Porcupine is offered to the bereaved parents and wife in their sudden and sad loss. The church was flled with sympathâ€" ising friends and neighbours. The Porcupine Fire Department (of which the deceased soldier was a member) attended in a body in full uniform. On Sunday afterfoon a memorial service was held at the Porcupine United Church, Rev J. C. Thompson officiating. Hymns, "Lead Kindly Light" "Safe in the Arms of Jesus," and "Abide with me‘", were sung, and the twentyâ€"third Psalm read! Rev Thompson took as his text, "Thanks be to God which giveth us the Victory‘". He said that at this time many brave young men are called to be with God. God has not forsaken us,. He still cares, and is yet the giver of defeat and victory, life and death. Hope then in God who giveth the victory. A short obituary was read :â€" "‘Sapper Orville Bannerman wWas born and lived in Porcupine all his life until he voluntarily enlisted, hearing the call to serve King and Country. "It was known that he was always willing to: help wherever needed. . He was a valued member of the Porcupine Fire Brigade. "He was working at the Bonetal Mine when he enlisted and was a fayâ€" orite among his fellow workers. "He held a deep love for his parâ€" ents‘ home, and he was kind and genâ€" erous to all.. "While here he attended the public school as well as the Sunday School and Bible Classes under the leadership of Rev. L. Hussey and others. was in need of assistance, and was preparing to drive on when he was bumped by Martin‘s car. The Crown Attorney pointed out that the rules of the road and a section of the traffic act deals with the question of stopping if there is not sufficient clearance way to travel past another Car therefore Martin was at fault in trying to pass. He was fined $20. and costs. Other witnesses were O. Roy and Depatie. Fred Fedor charged Stanley Malava with assault. Dr. Paul gave evidence as to the number of contusions, etc, for which he treated Fedor following the assault, and also mentioned that the man had suffered two, years AgO «from a fractured spine. Sapper Rennie MacDonald Killed in Action Overseas South Porcupine, Aug. 15th,. Special to The Advance. . News was received this week by Mr. and Mrs. T. Gibbons that Sapper Rennie MacDonald â€" (Red) of the RCE. was killed in action in France on July 13th. He went over to France from England on July 10th and was killed three days later. He lived while in S. Portupine at the Gibbons home and was employed at the time of his enlistment as shift bosis at the Pamour Mine. His parents, who live at Freeâ€" manh near Burlington, received the word and wrote to his friends here. The deceased soldier was wellâ€"known and liked here by many people. All restrictions on wheat deliveries have been removed by the federal govâ€" ernment. Canada‘s wheat surplus which stood at over 200 million bushels year ago is expected to be shovelled away to 300 million by the end of July this: year.
