Hér exhibitions were a pleasure to witness and all are hoping for an early return of this talented young skater from across the Border. At each evenâ€" ing performance Miss Merrill was preâ€" sented with beautiful baskets of roses and other cut flowers. In the Intermediate Group Hillka Filppula on merit was most outstandâ€" ing. Others who gave sterling exhibiâ€" tions were Vera and Joyce Jenkin, Velma â€" Popovitch, Mildred Verbik, Jacqueline Byers, Gordon Paul, Jimmy Fraser, Roger Todhunter, John O‘Donâ€" nell and Lionel Boni. Their performâ€" ances during the show were features of its success. Presentation of a beautiful basket of cut flowers and a special curtain call for Miss Madge Austin on Monday night brought thunderous applause Miss Austin did not skate this year but nevertheless the crowd showed its apâ€" proval for her high talent. Miss Margaret Keeley, Miss Olga Bernyk, Miss Doreen Dutton and all the Senior club members showed tc perfection the skill and grace of the skating art. The ballroom dancing and the ballet number were items of charm and skilful training and hard practice. Special mention can also be given to the young junior soloistsâ€"The Perkoâ€" vich Twins, Dorothy Devine, Arlene Cameron., Kathleen Hill, Dorothy Beâ€" lec, Charlie Burkholder and© Jackie Belec. All of whom gave very talented and pleasing performances. Special Notes on the Show High praise must be given to Miss Madge Austin, popular instructress for the training of the young children takâ€" ing part. This has taken weeks of hard work and much careful planning. The superb performances of all the children more than repaid Miss Austin, who along with the 5,000 odd citizens who viewed the show thrilled at the finished product. Intermediate Soloists of Porcupine Skating Club At the meeting of the Executive of the Porcupine Festival of Music held on Friday evening in the Timmins Town hal.l the secretary, Mrs. J; W. Thom:on, reported that 562 entries had been received which surpasses all preâ€" vious years. In 1942 there were but 382. This means that the adjudicator, Mr. George Coutts, will have an extremely busy time while the festival is on from May 8 toi 12. { The artistic painting of the "Story Book" was also another â€" noteworthy attraction. This was the skilled work of Mrs. MacMillan, of Schumacher, who is an artist of exceptional merit and ability. Her talent was much praised by all. ‘Those assisting Miss Madge Austin in the choreography were Miss Denne, Miss Sundul, (Miss M. Keeley, Miss Doâ€" reen Dutton, Miss Olga Bernyk, Misses Vera Jenkin, Joyce Jenkin, Mary Lou Landreville and Mildred Verbik. . To all these are extended popular praise for their efforts in the success of the show. The orchestral music asâ€"provided by Lt. J. Lomas was of a high order and his talented group of musicians were a standout feature of the Ice Carnival. The musical settings were of classical nature and only on one or two occaâ€" sions did the popular music of today enter into the musical theme. A word must be given to the comâ€" mittee in charge of costumes. In the two main scenes Cinderella and Peter Pan the costumes were supplied by the Malabar Co., Toronto. All others were the work of energetic women of . the district under the chairmanship of Mrs. Roy Dunbar. The costumes put the touch of beauty to the very elaborate setting of the Arena surface. 562 Entries Received for the Porcupine Festival of Music Record Made for Number of Entries for 1944 Event.
