Making the most if the fine weather of past weeks, the Eighth, Troop has ! been having a series of outdoor meetâ€" ings, reports Donald Tambeau, Troop Scribe. One evening the Troop went ocut on an observation hike' and upon their return to headquarters it was found that honours for being aler and keen went to the Wolves and Foxes. The following week a commando meet-- ing was‘neld A citaidel was nmed‘} and John Wolfe Invested At Seventh Troop Meeting The highlight of last week‘s meetâ€" ing of the Seventh Timmins Troop was the investiture of John Wolfe, a memâ€" ber of the Wolf Patrol. The other memâ€" bers of the Troop welcomed John enâ€" thusiastically and hope that he will continue the fine progress he has made so far. At the same meeting the boys passed quite a number of tests. Second Class semaphore signalling was comâ€" pleted by Scouts Bob Getty, Lyndon Syler, Lloyd Kramp and Torben Witâ€" trup, all members of the Wolf Patrol. Congratulations go to Lloyd Kramp particularly as he has now completed all the requirements of a Second Class Scout. Donald McIntyre, a recruit in the Troop, was given a hearty welâ€". come by the Scouts and already is showing keen interest in Scout activiâ€" ties. The Wolf Patrol again won the Honour Flag, and it seems to be gettâ€" Scout Firemen Turn Out For Incendiary Demonstration Some forty Scouts, holders of the Boy Scout Fireman Badge, turned out last Monday evening to witness a deâ€" monstration of incendilary bombs by the Timmins Fire Department. This is the type of knowledge valued by hoidâ€" ers of this badge, as they mukt be preâ€" pared to handle them in cases of emer«â€" gency. Besides seeing how these bombs wreak their havoc, their constructic was explained by Deputy Fire Chief Morton, as .well as the principles on which they work. Further ~instruction along these lines was promised by Mr. Morton, who is the official examiner for the Fireman Badge, and the boys are eagerly awaiting an opportunity of increasing their knowledge about this sort of fireâ€"fighting. Association. The main item of busiâ€" ness was Apple Day, and reports were received from each of the committees that have beenactiveinthecrganiza tion and promotion of the event. Quite a number of the Executive members will themselves be active on that day supervising the different phases of the setup and in some cases taking charge of districts in the absence of leaders. The date of the annual meeting of the Timmins Boy Scouts Association was set for October 29. At th:ls meeting reports ars received on ‘the yegr‘s Scouting, and officers elected for the year ahead. It is hoped that a large turnout of townspeople will mark the meeting this year, and that the efâ€" forts of the Association inâ€" the past will be rewarded by the interest o‘ the public at large. !_â€"_The regular meeting of the Young ! People‘s Union of the Firt United ‘Church opened on Wednesday evening, Sept. 29th, with the hymn; "Stand Up, Stand Up, for Jesus." The highlight of the evening was a very interesting talk given by Bob Boyce about his stay in the Sanitorium. He spoke of the difâ€" ferent given the patients ‘such, as: â€" pneumothorax, pneumolysis | thoracoplasty and phrenic. Bob desâ€" ! cribed the patients as people who lookâ€" ed fit snough ty be doing a good «day‘s work instead of spending their time in ‘ a San., this healthy appearance being l one of the characteristics of those sufâ€" | fering from tuberculosis. The patients usually spend their time by vlsitipg ‘each other, observing two rest periods _ day, and as they get better they go for walks zround the grounds of the San. ""A very busy day doing nothing," was the spesker‘s comment. Entertainâ€" ments are provided by the service clubs of the city.. The speaker advised anyâ€" ‘one who had to go to a Sanitorium to go with the idea of getting better in as short a time as possible and they will find their progress will be much swifter. ht the end of his talk, Bob answered the questions of the group and everyâ€" one had a much better idea of what a ‘sanitorium was like after hearing such an interesting and detailed account of its work. ' "We leave out regular meeting to bring you the details of the hike which ~was held on Saturday, Sept. 25th. The Cubs from all the Packs in town gathâ€" ered at 2.30 p.m. at the Moneta School, and proceeded out Pine Street. i The leaders seemed full of pep beâ€" ‘cause they soon had everyone singing ! as they marched along, enjoying themâ€" immensely, During the brief business period of the mseting the minutes of the preâ€" vious meeting were read, and a comâ€" mittee was chosen to nominate officers for the coming year. The group then joined in singing some of their favourite songs in a lively singâ€"song led iby Bob Boyce. "We reached the lake and the only thing the boys could think of was food, but they had to wait a little longer. Games were played under the direction of Akela Lucciantonio. The Fourth Pack won the game called Tunâ€" nels, and the 8th Pack won the leapâ€" frog game. Raymond Lebrecque and Jimmy Read were winners in an elimâ€" ination game, and then, at last, we could ceat. Oh, were we hungry! ing quite a habit with them. The other Monster Cub® Hike Reported By Sixth Pack: Scribe Combining a report of Pack acuvltiu and of the District Cub hike held reâ€" cently, the Sixth Pack Scribe writes: . â€""HMere we are back again with the latest news. Our meeting opened last week under the guidance of Baloo and Baghecra, in the absence of Akela who was ill. Begheera conducted a game called "Life on a Destroyer," and Timâ€" my Ryan was the sole survivor. "We finally reached the trail to Cowâ€" boy Lake and many of the Cubs gathâ€" ered beautiful leaves to help them earn their Collector‘s Badge. An interesting moment was provided*> when all had to walk a log to cross the stream. Picâ€" tures were taken of the boys crossing the log in many different fashions. their winning streak before very long. Following supper a large circle was made around the Red Flower, everyâ€" one joining in the singing of manly songs. Then came the long trek home, and everyone reached there safely, tirâ€" ed but happy. ; : We‘ll be expecting every Cub and Scout to be on the job on Saturday, so we‘ll see you then.
