Warner has made many preâ€" | vious air epics, to which the adjectives ‘sweeping, spectacular and stirring were deservingly applied. The studio‘s masâ€" tery of such subjects has long since been established and the most accurate ‘evaluation of this latest venture into the combatâ€"flving world should cite it las comparing favorably in all details with its predecessors. The cast was carefully and shrewdly selected and reâ€" wards the care by performances of generally high standards. Technically there is nothing to be desired, which is understandable when one remembers that the feature was produced with full cooneration and advice of the Roâ€" yal Canadian Air Force, of whose acâ€" tivities the story‘s latter half treats. Feature has the additional benefits of Technicolor photography to accentuate ts colorful locales and backgrounds. And to keep from becoming irksome the portraval of how the neighboring dcminion and ally recruits and trains its warbirds, there is romance, comedy and, above all, constant action. The picture‘s early footage deals with the lives, loves, adventures and competiâ€" tion . commercial avaitors who the north country knows as bushâ€"flyers and from whose ranks comes a quintet of daredevil birdmen, the respective parts of whom in the RCAF furnishes the nucleus of the yarn‘s latter half. lThc picture reflects great credit upon Producer William Cagney and Directâ€" or Michael Curtiz." May Best Man Win Says Sutton and Loses With a Smile [t‘s All in the Delightful John Sutton has succeeded in getâ€" ting away from the "stiff upper lip" brigade. That is the name he has givâ€" en to the many English actors who are known for their "stout fella" roles, which usually pay off with some dire disaster in the end. Sutton is currently romancing Rita Hayworth cinematically in 20th Cenâ€" turyâ€"FPax‘s "My Gal Sal," the Techniâ€" color musical based on the life and love of Paul Dresser, the famous comâ€" poser. Of course, with Victor Mature around, Sutton doesn‘t win the fair Rita at the end of the picture, but neither does he pine away like some SAT., SUNDAY MID., MONDAY TUESDAY Gene Autry in "Dudes Are Pretty People" Musical Number, "My Gal Sal." : _Second Attraction _ Will Rogers Jr. and Marjorie Woodworth in SPECIAL SUNDAY ; MIDNITE SHOWING at 12.05 Goldfields "Mad Doctor of Market Street " with " Cowhboy Serenade" Double Programme THB PORCUPINER ADVANCE, TTMMINS, Ricardo Cortez plays the role of the crusading assistant district attorney with distinction and conviction. And Joan Woddbury as the enterprising nwespaper reporter plays her role with sincerity and a keen‘ sense of dramaâ€" tics. As the "sob sister" who uncovers a gigantic racketeer plot, pil?)t'eâ€"d â€"b;' George Pembroke as gangster King, the actress plays another in a long list of parts. The screnplay by Henry ‘Bancroft, based on the original story by Leonard Fields and David Silverstein, is packed with tense moments and quickâ€"moving action. ‘There, is for the gratification of newspapermen, a careful handling of those scenes dealing with life inside a newspaper office. "I Killed That Man" is a story with 1 newspaper background, but with a fresh slant that makes for entertainâ€" ment from the opening moment until the end mysteries are solved and roâ€" mance completed. In a picture of this sort where experienced acting is essenâ€" tial an outstanding cast has been asâ€" sembled to meet the situation. Director ‘Phil Rosen, under the proâ€" duction guidance of Producers Maurice King and Franklin King, has turned out a neat bit of photoplay refllete with a generous amount of pathos and huâ€" mor. He never fails to keep his story moving along at a rapid pace, intersâ€" persing his tense drama with a good dose of laughs. There are excellent supporting perâ€" formances by Iris Adrain as the gangâ€" ster‘s girl friend, Herbert Rawlinson as the warden, Jack Mulhall and comâ€" edian Vince Barnett. General Applause Accorded to "‘The Great Man‘s Lady‘ Barbara Stanwick and Joel McCrea in Stirring Film Hit Three stars who were first seen toâ€" gether in Cecil B. DeMille‘s "Union Pacific‘ are again united in the heartâ€" stirring picture which Paramount brâ€" ings to the Broadway theatre after Sunday midnight, June 15th. "The Great Man‘s Lady" coâ€"stars Barbara Stanwick and Joel McCrea; with Brian Donlevy in supuoort â€" a trio of movie mighties to quicken the pulse of any film fan. The nicture itself is a pulseâ€"quickenâ€" er, if ever there was one. The story covers a span of many years, going back as far as 1848 when Miss Stanâ€" Wwyck as a conventionallyâ€"reared girl of 16 runs off and marries Joel McCrea. He takes her out west where he hopes to build a great city on the barren land he has inherited. "Have you seen any mysterious strangers about here lately?" asked the dg@ggtive of the old villager. ‘"Yes, sir," replied the old . man. "There was a man ‘ere with the circus lasg week, an ‘e took a pair o0‘ rabbits out o‘ my whiskers!"â€"Exchange. Action and tense drama are the kevâ€" notes of the quickâ€"moving story and and performances in Monogram‘s "I Killed That Man," starring Ricardo Carterz with Joan Woodbury, at the Goldfields theatre on Thursday and Friday, June 11th and 12th, with the added â€"hit, ‘"Melody Lane," starring Leon Errol and Anne Gwynne. Crossing their path is Brain Donâ€" levy, a gambler uniquely honest. He falls in love with Barbara and is unâ€" wittingly instrumental in coming beâ€" tween her and McCrea. This does not keep her from setting McCrea on the path to the realization of his dreams. How she, McCrea‘s wife, finds herself living in the shadowy recesses of his life while he rises to magnificent heights, makes "The Great Man‘s Lady" thrilling, unusual entertainment. The supporting cast is excellent. Katharine Stevens as a young girl biâ€" ographer is someone to keen an eye on. Thurston Hall, Lloyd Corrigan, Etta McDaniel are fine, as is Lucien Littleâ€" field in the role of newspaper editor. The three stars portray people you wi_g_ love and remember for a long time. A robbery had been committed in the village, and a detective had been sent to investigate.
