Each of the other other members of the rink moves ahead with the. viceâ€"skips calling the shots. The object of the competition is to give the viceâ€"skips a bit of practice in skipping and a result training men to take over the skips‘ duties in the coming season. THE VICEâ€"SKIFS COMPETITION (‘The Coniaurum Mines Trophy) Day Shift Thursday, April 9th, 1942,â€"6. 30 p.m. Gambles bowling team went into the discard on Thursday night of last week as they met the Advance in the last game of the schedule in the Comâ€" mercial Bowling League and dropped an expensive pair of points to the printers. They were in the spot and had to beat the printers by at least two points to stay in the running. Ice No. Two points for the fruiters would have put them on the same terms as the Power and another suddenâ€"death game between the two clubs would have to be played. Three points would have given them the championship of the second half and a chance to meet the printers in the finals which started this week. Gambles went into the game spotâ€" ting the printers a fifty pin handicap but they were still determined to win and fought to the last ball. In the first game they were down eighteen pins but came back strong in the second game to take it. In the last game they were beaten fortyâ€"nine pins. Alfie Guidice, .the printers‘ speedâ€" ball artist, paced them to their first win when he posted a score of 254 in the initial game to beat everything on the sheet. Pirie turned in a 203 score to help the printers‘ cause as well. Two of the Gambles trundlers argued but they were still short by eighteen pins at the end of the game. The two men were Pete Nicolson with 242 and W. Robinson 225. Robinson stepnped out in the second game to scare 251 and to lead his team to their only point of the night. Nicolson again rapped in a score over the two hundred mark with 216. Best for the printers was Bill Dunn with 259. Guidice again took over the spotlight in thq last game and practically won the game singlehanded as he counted for one third ofthis team‘s> pdoints. His 327 was by far the best on the sheat while: Davidson took the second honâ€" curs with 227. Best the fruiters had to ofer was Pete Nicsolson with 233 and Robinson with 205. ; Three men made the honsur roll with scores of over six hundred.
