Special to The Advance. Those who feel depressed and would like to be in a totally different atmosâ€" phere for a time, should attend our Ssouth Porecupine High School some Friday night when competitions, deâ€" bates and sports are the order of the evening. The spotlight of the evening was a debate which was waged between teams from our school and TIroquois Falls. The subject was "Resolved, that Invenâ€" tions (or inventors) have done more for humanity than Reformers." Youth, with its faculty of living in the present and getting the best out of every minute will act as a tonic for you. Your correspondent was invited on Friday last, and spent a thoroughly inâ€" teresting hour ior two. The visiting teamâ€"in charge of Miss Coxâ€"took the negative view with Lawâ€" rence Cutten and Jeanne LeClair. The affirmative view was advanced and supported by Bob Dve and Leonard Harper. Judges were Mrs. Irving Went, Mrs. Maxwellâ€"Smith and Mr. R. Inglis. While our own team did some smart thinking in quick refutation rebuttal, their points were not so decidedly knocked home as these of the Reformer group, who lost not one second in placâ€" ing the list of reformers (cut, dried and neatly boxed) before the appreciative audience. This was a good debate and the points between the contestants were very few. There were a few, however, and the judges all agreed that Iroquois Falls had presented the better argum@nt in very slightly better style. In Tfroquois Falls a similar debate tock place, South Porcupine (team, Eura Smith and Betty Sharp) presentâ€" ing the negative. They top lost to Iroâ€" quois Falls Miss McKinley accomâ€" panied the girls to the Falls. Timmins police this morning warned motorists and car dealers alike that they are going to strictly enforce the traffic regulations in regard to the reâ€" gistering of new trucks. The traffic act reads that any person purchasing a new truck must have it registered in his name inside of six days. This is not being done in Timmins as dealers are withholding the registration cards for the trucks until they are paid for.
