In addiâ€" tion to supplying the most highlyâ€"paid work for thousands of men, in addition to millions a year paid in taxes by the gold mining industry, in addition to millions paid out yearly for supâ€" plies and equipment, the Porcupine‘s gold mining industry has been adding millions of dollars‘ worth of new wealth to the country. The gold industry has taken a vital part in preserving Canada‘s stability and holding the exchange at fair balance. This year the Porcupine Camp completes its thirtyâ€"second year of production. During that time close to $700,000,000 in gold has been shipped from the Porcupine, and close to $200,â€" 000,000 paid out in dividends. (From Canada Lumberman) Happiness is a state of mind resulting from conditions and cireumstances surrounding the individual, family and national life. Measured by such a standard there are very few, if any, countries on the earth‘s surface where conditions and circumâ€" stances so abundantly lend themselves to the enjoyment of Christmas as in Canada. In the warâ€"torn world in which we live happiness must be measured comparatively; and gratitude must seek it‘s source in the contemplation of our freedom from the growing miseries that cast an everâ€"widening shadow over the lives of millions of our fellowmen. h 4 c us @ c uh. 0. 28â€"A t vat t TR As individuals, as families or as a nation the grimmer aspects of the war have, as yet, hardly left a mark upon us. While youthful footsteps resounded in thousands of Canadian homes a year or two ago have now gone to swell the marching columns that ultimately will bring us victory, they are still with us, fillâ€" ing our hearts with pride‘in their willingness to take their places in the great crusade to which they have dedicated their lives. Canadians will measure the happiness and enjoyment of their Christmas of 1941 largely by their contribution to the cheer which they will send to those who represent them in the first line of defence. And the spirit of Christmas, which is the graciâ€" ous gift of being able and willing to give to others, will be kept alive during 1942 by constantly remembering Canada‘s fighting forces in our hearts, our prayers and our gifts. NE NE S OE From every material consideration, Canada can exclaim "A Merry Christmas" with an exultant national note. Unemployâ€" ment has been practically banished from our midst. The naâ€" tional income has reached unprecedented heights. Our homes, our factories, our places of business and recreation have been immune; not a single square foot of our individual, corporate or national physical assets has been destroyed by devastating atâ€" tacks from the air. Not a single casualty is recorded within the boundaries of this continent as scores of thousands have been snuffed out in that "tight little island." Such perplexities as we have centre around the regulation and management of what we haveâ€"and many "have" in greater abundance than they have had for many yearsâ€"while far less happily circumstanced peoâ€" ple have nothing left to create such perplexities. In the midst of events that, as yet, have cast few of the deeper shadows of war, that have made possible the gratifying of every reasonable personal desire, that have placed within our reach the privilege of ministering, with our gifts, to the needs and comforts of those within our family circle, our friends, our soldâ€" iers, sailors and airmen wherever they may beâ€"it is in the conâ€" templation of these conditions and cireumstances which surround us that we can extend to each other with every sincerity and with profound gratitude "A Merry Christmas." E. H. King, postmaster following note:â€" Re National Registration During the Christmas Season ; The Post Office Dept. advises that owing to the increased, work in all post offices at Christmasâ€"time, young persons 16 years of age will not be registered during the week from the 18th to the 26th. inclusive. However, persons who have lost their former National Registration Certificates will be served at any time the wickets are open.
