They meet once a month for social and patriotic purposes, and are now piecing and making a Red Cross quilt. They played bridge on Mo#day, prizes being won by Mrs. Rayner, Mrs. Jay, Mrs. Freeman and Mrs. Webb. The Finnish Lutheran ladies held | their annual bazaar and sale of fancy work and baking last Wednesday at the church room on William St., with Mrs. Pikkusaari in‘ charge. Although a quantity of fancy work and linen embroidery was for sale, all was sold auite early and nothing wa® left, The sum of $130 was realized. At two hockey games to date the ladies of the O W.S.F. have assisted in selling tickets and the lucky winners of war savings certificates have been drawn by the referees of the hockey games. $50 to date has ‘been collected for the war effort. On Monday night winners of certificates were Andy McGinn, Chas. Laamanen, Dick and Geo. Johnson. Kennedy is spending a feow days in town visiting his sister and brother, from Malartic. $250 Contributed at South Poreupine for Russian Relief Mr. V. H. Evans spoke to the audiâ€" ence, first congratulating the chairman on her poise. He spoke of Russia‘s brave stand against the common enâ€" emy of Canada and Russia, and of the need of help now, especially in medical supplies. He pointed out that when the audience came from Russia to Canada they were allowed to keep their cusâ€" toms and their children‘s development was unhampered. Only in a country like Canada, England, or America would this be possible. We have liberty and these boys and girls must be saved from the slavery which would ensue from Hitler‘s rule. He concluded by praising Russia‘s glorious stand against Germany and by contributing the first bill to the "Fund for the Fatherland." South Porcupine, Dec. 17â€"(Special to The Advance)â€"On Sunday night the whole Russian colony in South Porcuâ€" pine turned out en masse to the call for attendance at the Kiwanis hall where an entertainment preceded speeches calling for financial aid to the Russian Red Cross. The chair was most ably taken by Miss Anna Evanuck, of Timmins, who spoke both in Ukrainian and English. She said that the call of the Russian "Fatherland" for aid had resulted in $1200 being already subscribed in the Camp. O‘Shea and son, Michael, motored to Hull after receiving word of the serious nature of his illness but arrived only a short time before his death. The body was brought home to South Porcupine on Friday. Jack O‘Shea was born in Hull, Yorkâ€" shire, England, on Christmas Day, 1912, and by strange coincidence died in Hull, Quebec, just before Christmas His whole life was spent in South Porâ€" cupine where he attended the local schools, and later he took a course in electrical engineering in a Chicazo college. His many friends sincerely mourn his passing in the prime of life, as he was wellâ€"liked by everybody and appeared to have a promising career ahead of him. He leaves to mourn his loss both parents, two brothers, Michael and Patrick, and one sister, Norah (Mrs. H. Belisle). The funeral took place on Monday morning, a solemn requiem mass being held in St. Joachim‘s Church with Rev. Father Roberge as officiating priest. Pallbearers were Messrs Dan A. Mcâ€" Lellan, Hyacinth Ferrigan, Michael O‘Shea (cousin), Michael O‘Rourke, John Boylan and Frank ‘P. O‘Shea (cousin)‘. Flowers were sent from: Mr. and Funeral This Week of Jack O‘Shea at South Porcupine South Porecupine, Dec. 16â€"(Special to The Advance)â€"Much sympathy is extended by the community this week to Mr. and Mrs. Patrick O‘Shea and family, oldâ€"timers of town, in the death of their eldest son, Jack, who passed away suddenly in a Hull (Quebec) hosâ€" pital after being operated on for a ruptured appendix. The deceased young man, 29 years of age, had been working recently as an electrician in munitions in the Niaâ€" gara District, but left there last week for Hull where he was to continu» working on motors for a time before going on to Newfoundland. While in Hull he was taken suddenly ill and died in hospital three days after operâ€" ation.
