The feature at the Broadway theaâ€" tre, startinz Sunday midnight, Oct. 13th, is "Forty Thousand Horsemen,‘ the first Australian picture to be shown in this country. In addition to being the first Ausralian picture to be the first Australian picture to be shown in this country. In addition to being the first Ausralian picture to be shown here, there is a general opinion that it is decidedly the best film made in Australia. ‘"Measured even from the standards of overseas production," says The Film Weekly, "it is a wonderâ€" ful piece of entertainment. The Broadâ€" way theatre is naturally pleased and proud to present this picture to its patrons. "Forty Thousand Horseâ€" men‘" is a picture that will be reâ€" motlbered. * The film, which terses the nerves to the utmost, is a magnificent tribute to the memory ¢of the grand men of the first Light Horse who made that charge of deathic=; memory, the famous Beerâ€" sheba Charge, said not to be surpassâ€" ed by any suc‘a charge in history. It was made for the fi‘m ty members of the present Light Horse, who ride as their fathers© rede wi‘h all the dash and deoviltry of insvpi;'ed courags. Done on the sanChills of Cronulla, it is evident a few falls in the soft sand were neither here nor there to the trained animals. As usual, with Australian outdoor screen photography, this department carries absoluw‘e perfection. The plot, generally speaking, conâ€" serves the adventures of our men in Palestine twenty years ago, and the splendid part they and their confreres, the New Zealanders, played in ressuâ€" imz that country from cruel oppression. There is a very natural and charmâ€" ing love romance between Bet‘y Bryâ€" ant, newcomer to the scereen, and Graat Taylor, seen bsfore in "Dad Rudd, M. P." Pat Twohill and Eric Reimer are two of the leading cast, Twcohill as one cof the horsemen, Reimer giving an exceedingly realistic performance. And sung as the Light Hors:men sung it, "Waltzing Matilda" has never sounded 8 grand before. i Chips Raffety is the chief comedian And gets his laughs in every scene. He is a tvoical Awtralian, and his litâ€" le fastâ€"smoking bit creates a roar. He is also responsible for most of the wisecracks. Joe Valli stands out in a small part. Eastern atmoschere is asâ€" tonishingly real, and there is no doubt but that much of what is implicated in the factual portion of the film will eccme as syirprise history to many. Love and Laughter Highlight the New Columbia Comedy Every season, Columbia studios pop up with the best comedy of the year, a tradition which dates back to such memorable hits as "The Awful Truth" and "It Happened One Night," and carries through "Mr. Smith Goes, to Washington," "Mr. Deeds Goes to Town,." "This Thing Called Love," etc, ete. This season, "Our Wife" provides the year‘s finest comedy film fare, according to Hollywood report, with Melyvyn Douglas, Ruth Hussey and Elâ€" en Drew contributing love and laugh performances greater than anything they have ever done. Picture should once, both for i for its historical Racy Riot of Fun and Roâ€" mance in "Our Wife." This new picture, "Our Wife" will be at the Palace theatre, Thursday, Priâ€" Friday midnight and Saturday, October 9th, 10th and lith. It was produced and directed by John M. Stahl. From P. J. Wolfson‘s adaptaâ€" tion of the Broadway hit. Said to be a raey, rowdy, rollicking romance, an effervescent and exciting triangle that Dennis Morgan, Arthur Kennedy and Wayne Morris as the Younger Brothers, daring outlaws who wrote history with their blazing guns. Their bulletâ€"splashed story is told in "Bad Men of Missouri" at the Cartier theatre, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Oct. 9th, 10th, lith. MISSOURI‘S OUTLAW HEROES be seen more than s entertainment and value. seems to send Douglas running in | circles, "Our Wife" is concerned as much with characterization as it is | with plot, as much with scintillant diaâ€" | logue as it is with gay and laugh-in-! voking situations. i Essentially "Our Wife" is the story of a band leader, a trumpeter, down in his luck. Just when the divorce action undertaken by his goldâ€"digging wife is about to become final, he meets a girl who inspires him to more serâ€" ious work. Hearing of his success, the wife attempts to win him back. Essentially, "Our Wife" is the story of a battle royal between two women for one bewildered man. One woman uses her head; the other, her eyes, arms and lips. And when one eyeful loses her head she finds a husband; when the armful loses her husband, she finds a fight on her hands! Within the framework of these diâ€" vergent and dramatic narrative outâ€" lines, producerâ€"director John M. Stahl has erected a comedy that towers high above anything in recent months, so far as fullyâ€"rounded entertainment is concerned. Swift, suspenseful, "Our Wife" sparkles with honest humor, a humor both sophisticated and slapâ€" stick. The unqualified praise accorded the film, as a whole, has been no less enâ€" thusiastic in the matter of its princiâ€" pals. His record of success virtually unequalled in â€" Hollywood. Douglas nevertheless is said to manage to conâ€" tribute to "Our Wife" a performance even greater than anything he has ever given a previous role. Miss Husâ€" sey is said to outâ€"shine her characteriâ€" zations in "The Philadelphia Story," "Susan and God" and "Flight Comâ€" ‘ The colourful story of the Younger Brothers in their darnig escapades throughout the Old West is vividly told in the Warner Bros.‘ exciting film sucâ€" !pessor to that studio‘s "Dodge City" !and "Santa Fe Trail," "Bad Men of ‘ Missourt," which is at the Cartier theaâ€" itre Thursday, FPriday and Saturday of ‘this week, Oct. 9th, 10th and 1lith, with the added feature "Tight Shoes," with John Howard, Brod. Crawford, tLeo Carrillo, Binnie Barnes. mand," to name but a few of her reâ€" cent triumphant appearances, and to prove again her right to the stardom she is so splendidly winning. As "Our Wife," Miss Drew is said to interpret her role so cleverly that the sweet, cudâ€" dly kitten she portrays in early seâ€" quences changes into a scratching tigâ€" ress with subtle, smooth ease. Stahl‘s direction is said to exceed in worth even his work on such films as "Magnificent Obsession," "Imitation of Life" or "Love Affair," and there is no doubt in Hollywood that "Our Wife" is one of the "must see" hits of the vear. Thrilling Saga of Western Bandits on Double Programme The Younger brothers were one of the toughest trio of bandits in Amerâ€" ica‘s turbulent history. They robbed banks, trains and stagecoaches with a daring that was unbelievble, taking the law into their own hands to avenge the wrongs done their neighbours by an avaricious powerâ€"grasping banker. Macgassa Man‘s Death Due (Kirkland Lake Asking Dennis Morgan, Wayne Morris and Arthur Kennedy play the parts of the Robin Hood type desperadoes and from advance reports we hear that they are perfectly cast as the three embittered boys who return from the Civil War only to find their father murdered and their home and the homes of most of their neighbours in the hands of the local banker. Jane Wyman pliays the role of a girl who loves Jim Younger, Arthur Kennedy‘s part, and tries to dissuade him from becoming a crimiâ€" nal. But he and his brothers are deâ€" termined to avenge their father‘s death. Train, bank, stagecoach fall prey to the calculating minds of the Younger brothers. Their names become synonyâ€" mous with danger . . . Town after town experiences their grim visits. No sherâ€" iffâ€"no posse can trap them . . . their escapes become more clever . . . more daring. But suddenly the end of their lawless career comes in a completely surprising manner. The Younger broâ€" thers used their loot only to help the neighbouring farmers keep their farms. For this they become famous as the Robin Hood bandits. Their is the strangest story in the actionâ€"packed history of the West. Besides a brilliant leading cast and authenticity in story, "Bad Men of Missouri‘" has a supporting case which features such fine performers as Victor Jory, Alan Baxter, Walter Catlett and Sam McDaniel.
