Griffith and Writer Virginia Van Upp, for <he right answer. These two were the ones responsible for Madeleine‘s and Fred‘s previous three successful ventures. The Stephensâ€"Lang Production contains all the elements of good entertainment in the proper quantities to satisfy the most critical moviegoer. This is a grand picture. Lions Club Hold Meeting Tuesday Night Next Week Most interesting part of the meeting was the entertainment period when the Lions were shown two movies. Oe of the movie reels was about the scuttlâ€" ing of the German Pocket Battleship, the Graf Spee, at Montevideo, Uraâ€" guay. The members showed particular interest in this fine film, that showed parts of the sea fight and the hug»e battleship just before it exploded in the harbour. The second film shown to the Lions was a comedy that put them back in a jovial mood again. Jean Hersholt again portrays the lovâ€" able country doctor with an opporâ€" tunity to display his great talent as a dramatic actor. Hersholt tops himself with a portrayal that ranges from coâ€" medy to intensely suspenseful drama. His great following of fans, accumuâ€" lated over a period of years on the screen and on the air, will find much to applaud. The Timmins Lions Club held their regular weekly meeting on Monday night of this week and they decided that their next meeting will be held on Tuesday of next week, Monday beâ€" ing a holiday. President Stan Fowler was in the chair for the meeting. The regular business of the club was taken up and it was decided that the club would hold their first dance of the year at the RMverside Pavilion on Sepâ€" tember 26th. This dance will be one of the outstanding attractions of the winter season. Jean Hersholt in Another of the Dr. Christian Series Heartâ€"Warming Drama of Home Folks. The story concerns itself with the unjust accusation of a resident of "River‘s End" of embezzlement of the bank‘s funds. His jail sentence causes the breakdown of his motherless daughâ€" ter and "Dr. Christian," unable to mend a broken heart, sets about to find the true culprit so that the innocent man will be released and the girl may then recover. Threading the story, is the singing of the child prodigy, who wins a chance to sing in the finals of a stateâ€"wide . festival. The romance between Bob Baldwin and Dorothy Lovett as the pharmacist and the nurse respectively of "River‘s End," which threaded the series, is finally consummated, despite a hilariâ€" ous interlude in which it seems destinâ€" ed to go on the rocks. Maude Eburne, and little Leon Tyler supply the lightâ€" er moments. Director Erle Kenton has kept the action moving at all times and interest is sustained throughout. Based on an original screenplay by Maurice Leo and Peter Milne, "They Mest Again" is an RKO Radio release. It was also decided that there will be very much activity at the Lions Hall this coming month. Plans are being formulated to put on several special attractions at the hall in the next month for the members. One guest attended the mesting, Lion Carl Mitchell, of the Kirkland Lake club, who is at present working in Timmins as an official of the Proâ€" aucers‘ Dairy. Lion Mitchell expects to be transferred to the Timmins club in the near future. Second most important role in the picture was delegated to a discovery of the producers, nineâ€"yearâ€"old Anne Benâ€" nett, whose glorious voice is a highâ€" light of the film. Anne‘s rendition of an aria from ‘"La Traviata" in the finale is exceptionally well done. ¥‘cu‘ll enjoy this goodâ€"natured satire on the lighter side Oof the war in Europe. Passage from Hong Kong playved by Billy Gilbert "Keep Your Seats Please" "Bullets for O‘Hara" Roger Pryor and Joan Perry George Formby and Florence Desmond HORTâ€"Coloured Traveltalk Lucille Fairbanks and Paul Cavanaugh PoliceChiefComplimented The Timmins Police Commission held their regular monthly meeting in the Timmins Municipal Building on Tuesday night of this week and at the meeting the Commission complimentâ€" ed the chief of police on the way he and the Timmins Police Department, the Timmins Auxiliary Polics Force and the Timmins detachment of the Ontaro Volunteer Constabularly handlâ€" ed the large crowds in front of the Timmins town hall on August 19th when the Duke of Kent paid a visit to Timmins. < It was a feather in the cap of Chief Police Leo H. Gagnon who spared no effort to get the best police force available out. The Police Comâ€" mission chairman was the first memâ€" ber to bring the question to the front and from then on the Timmins chief received flowery compliments from each of the members on the fine and efficient manner in which the various police forces conducted themselves. Another resolution passed at the meeting was that the board of Police Commissioners recommend to the Timâ€" mins Council that when the town audiâ€" tors are ma‘king their annual audit that they also take an inventory of the asâ€" sets of the Timmins Police Department and supply each of the men on the Commission with a copy. on Behaviour of Police During Duke of Kent V isit Police Commission Were Impressed with the Way They Handled the Crowds on Timmins Streets. Also Imâ€" pressed With Their Fine Looks During the Parade. There wasn‘t much in the way of business taken up at Tuesday‘s meetâ€" ing. First item to be tackled was a letter from the Dominion Police Chiefs‘ Association asking that Timmins‘ Chief of Police, Leo H. Gagnon, be instructed to attend the annual conâ€" ference of the Association which will be held in Winnipeg on September 17th and 18th. The letter said that the Timmins chief had taken a very important part in their deliberaâ€" tions at the annual conference that was held in Halifax last year and they asked the Commission to send the Chief to this year‘s conference if it was possible. The letter pointed out that the imporiant parts of this year‘s conference would have to do with Naâ€" tional Defence and various methods to combat any sabotage activities,. The Commission passed a resolutiom that the Chief of Police be instructed to attend the conference and that he also be given the sum of $150.00 to cover his expenses. e Another leiter was read by Clerk| Roland Godin from the White Fort Lunch in Timmins. The White Fort Lunch has been supplying the prisonâ€" ers‘ meals for the town for the past year and they asked that the price be raised from 25 cents to 28 cents. The higher cost of food made the increase necessary if the firm was to anything on the deal. The clerk then | got quotations from all the other restaurants in Timmins and the folâ€" lowing were some of the quotations.! One restaurant said they would supply ‘ the meals for 33 cents; another said they would supply them for 30 cents;' another said they would charge someâ€"| where between 35 cents and 45 cents but they couldn‘t decide what their exact price would be. Five other resâ€" taurants said that they were not ested in supplying the meals. ‘The Commission decided to take the lowest tender, that of the White Fort Lunch, | and included a rider in the resolution | that if the meals were not satisfactoryl the agreement could be concluded at any time. !
