Chri L ing 9‘5;7 98 underground operations were carried on at the copper property of Kam Kotia Porcupine Mines, Limitâ€" Economic Geology Since 1910, intensive prospecting, particularly in the southern part of the area, has resulted in the discovery of gold and copper. Diamondâ€"drilling programmes have been instituted at four localities in Robb township. Durâ€" Several small masses of granite octur in Loveland township and south and of Kamiskotia lake. The emall stock south of Kamiskotia lake sonsists of a highly altered, fineâ€"grainâ€" ed granite, which has been jointed and sheared and is cut by numerous small quartz stringors. FPelsite, aplite, and quartz and feldspar porphry dikes are found cutting the Keewatin and Hailâ€" ayburian rocks, chiefly in the vicinity cf the granite intrusives. Matchawen Quartz diabase dikes having a maxâ€" imum width of 150 feet and striking northâ€"south to N. 15 degrees W., are of common occurrence. These dikes are fcund in intrusive relationship to all the other types of rock in the area. Structural Geology The Keewatin rocks appear to form part of the southwest limb of a major syncline, which trends northwestâ€" ssuthwest. All observations indicated that the tops of the flows face northâ€" cast, altogether minor folds do occur. The schistosidy developed in these rocks strikes N. 65 degreesâ€"85 degrees W., and is fairly consistent throughout the action of the gabbro and the s2veral small bodies of granite. Haileyburian Large outâ€"rops of coarse gabbro, horn. blendite, and diorite occur chiefly in the southern part of Robb township. These rocks intrude the Keewatin volâ€" cani¢cs and are intruded by granite and felsite. Tho gabbroic phases of the main intrusive west and south of Kamâ€"« iskotia lake show fine banding at N. 40 desreesâ€"â€"60 degrees W. The outâ€" crops mappea as \'Haileyburian in Mcâ€" Diarmid and Loveland townships may be coarss phases of thick Keewatin lava flows. T Keewatin: â€"â€" Rhyolite, Greenstone, volcanic fragmentals, ircn formation. Keewatin The Keewatin rocks outcropping in this arsa consist of altered massive laâ€" vas, pilloy lavas and associated volâ€" zanic fragmentals of intermediate and casis <composition, and massive rhyolite. Thns rocks mapped as greenstone and rhyolite south of, Kamiskotia lake are vory highly altered by the combined Matachewin:â€"Quartze diabase Algoman:â€" Granite Haileyburian: â€" Gatbro,. hort Algoman Gavcbro,. hornblenâ€" Other Occurrences Gold has: been reported to occur in a large mass of quariz float near the 17 mile post on the Rcb>â€"Turnbull townâ€" ship boundary. Several attempts to trace the boulder to its source have been unsuccessful. Low gold values have been reported from a quartz vein containing pyrrhoâ€" tite and a little chalcopyrite in gabbro, 1 mile wes‘t of Kamiskstia lake. Copper Kam Kotia Porcupine Mines Limited Orie mile northwest of KamiskOotia lake in Robbs township near the Jamâ€" jeson township boundary, diamondâ€" grilling and underground exploration by Hollinger Consolidated Gold Mines, Limited in the years 19826â€"28, outlined two replacement bodies of mas sive sulâ€" phides. The ore is nard, siliceous, and fine grained. Chalsopyrite. pyrite, pyâ€" El Eol T. c d phides. The ore is nard, siliceous, and fine grained. Chalsopyrite. pyrite, pyâ€" rrhotite, and sphalerite are the chief sulphides present. At the time of opâ€" erations ceased in 1928, about 2,000,00 tons of ore with a grade of 1 per cent copper and 14 per cent zinc are report. ed to have been bilocked out in the north ore body, and 750,000 tons of 1.6 per cent copper and 05 per cent zinc in the south ore body. The property now belongs to Kam Kotia Porcupine per cent copper in the south of now belongs to Mines, Limited. Other Occurrences Chalcopyrite is a common constituent of quartz veins throughout the area. Tt Hillâ€" Haggpuist Claims On the Hilâ€"Haggpuist claims gold has been reported to in small quartz stringers and in minute fractures in granite half, a mile south of Kamisâ€" kotia lake.. Several prospect pits and trenches â€" have been dug, and a little diamondâ€"drilling has been aone. Exâ€" tensive sampling by the Homestake Company of South Dakota and later by Hollinger Consolidated Gold Mines, Limited, has failed to indicate a mineâ€" able ore body. On the second group, which consists of 11 claims in the southwest corner of Jamieson township and two adjoinâ€" ing claims in Robb township, extensive stripping and trenching have uncovered a variety of veins in greenstone and felsite or aplite dikes. Low grade valâ€" ues are reported from a northeastward striking vein of quartz and sphalerite ~ontaining little chalecopyrite and galena. This vein reaches a width of 6 feet in one place and has been trazed for approximately 1,500 feet along the strike . Some 500 feet northwest of this vein another vein of similar charâ€" acter czcurs partly in a felsite dike and partly on its contact with greenstone. Several smallor veins containing sphalâ€" erite and galena also occur near by. In the northwestern part of the group gold values have been reported from quartz stringers in highly carbonatized green.â€" stone and felsite mineralized with pyâ€" rite. About a quarter of a mile north of this showing low gold values are reported from quartz stringers in an aplite dike in gabbro. Gold has als> been reported from a quartz vein in rhyolite near the 15â€"mile «t an the Robbâ€"Turncull township pest on th boundary. ed, in Robb township. Several electri. cal surveys have been made in the viâ€" cinity of this property. GOLDâ€"Jamieson Chaims On the first Jamieson group, which consists© of seven claims half a mile southeast of Kamiskotia lake, extenâ€" sive stripping and trenching has unâ€" covered numerous quartz stringers in or associated with very irregular aplite dikes in gabbro. The gabbro is highly carbcnatized near the aplite dikes. The quartz stringers contain native gold, pyrite, and chalcopyrite. Since the original dissovery in 1913, a great deal of work has been done, including the sinking of three prospect shafts and a little diamondâ€"drilling, but a workâ€" able ore depcsit has not yet been deâ€" veloped. 1@ Quebec City, whose four centuries of history ~ Have made it a favorite stopping place for summer tourists, has achieved equal prestige with the winter visitor in less than half a decade! ‘Tho secret of this short cut to popularity lies in the sweeping growth of the ski habit, Quebec‘s glorious winter climate, its faciliâ€" ties for winter sports, and the snowâ€"clad hills of Lac Beauport, 11 miles distant.
