The highâ€" way at the Groundhog is broken with ferry service, and little progress was made last year on the bridge project. Since it has been pretty well estabâ€" lished that no action will be taken to continue the work, district Boards of Trade will press Toronto for the proâ€" ject‘s inclusion in the general program. Total Valuation Covered by Building Permits Nearly Half Miliion. Published at Timmins, Ont., Canada Every MONDAY and THURSDAY In one case, for example, a house valued at $4500 when application was made for the permit, actually cost three times that amount by the time it was finished. In the same way, business buildings usually have values much in excess of the permit figures. It is safe to say that the total value of buildings here, for which permits have been isâ€" sued in the second quarter of the year, instead of being under the half million mark, will be considerably over the half million in value. The outstanding point of the official summary is the number of new resiâ€" dencesâ€"no less than 164 permits havâ€" ing been issued up to June 30th this year. Undoubtedly there will be a large number of permits for new homes in the balance of the summer, so it will be seen that something is being done to remedy the housing problem here. Cowan, of 78 Balsam street south, entertained a large number of their friends at a very enjoyable party in the Legion hall on Monday evening. Many of the guests, who were over seventy in numâ€" ber, had attended the wedding of the popular ‘Timmins couple, when they were united in marriage at Glasgow, Scotland, on July lith, 1913. Mrs. Cowan was formerly Miss Wilhelmina Simpson, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Simpson of Glasgow. The official summary of building permits for the second quarter of this year, issued this week, shows the value of new buildings and improvements for Timmins reaches a total value of $454,â€" 878.00. As a matter of fact the new buildings alone will pass the half milâ€" ion mark in actual value, as the estiâ€" mates given in applying for building permits is always much below the acâ€" tual cost when built. Not only are there lusually additions in cost after the building starts, but the invariable tendency seems to be to keep the value figure given below what is expected. During the evening the guests took part in dancing, and were entertained by an ‘"impromptu" programme, in which friends of the bride and groom, Mrs. Hampton, Mrs. Todd of Schuâ€" macher, Mrs. Webber, Mrs. Larimer, Mrs., Portelance, Mrs. Austin Neame, Mrs. H. McCulloch, and Messrs, Joe Ormiston and Joe McGrath, took part. Mr. W. H. Wilson played for the dancâ€" ing. Mr. Cowan also gave one of the Scottish selections for which he is wellâ€" known in the camp, and everyone agreed that the evening was one that will long be remembered for its happy and carefree spirit. A dainty lunch was served, a large wedding cake which was very delicious and brought back memories of the wedding twentyâ€"five years ego bringing special mention from the guests.
