Don‘t Rely on Promises Now The time is past when candidates can rely on "promises" to subscribe at a later date. It is getting much too late in the race and after this Saturday night will eatrn many less votes than now, in fact just one half as many. Of course the drive does not officially close then, but the BIG VOTE PERIOD of the campaign does close, and withâ€" out question it is safe to say that winners of the biggest and best awards will be among those who make the best showing this week. From the standing shown elsewhere on page one of the first section of this issue, it will be evident to even the most casual reader that there is a real race for the capital awards. As a matâ€" ter of fact, some of the leaders stand so close together in the results so far, that the race may well be said to have several leaders at this point. (See standing on page one). Someone in that group of leaders shown in today‘s standing will emerge to. lead the final at the close of the BIG VOTE PERIOD and thus gain a commanding lead in the race for those two Ford cars. But who will it be? On the basis of the work done so farcit is rapidly apparent that any of the first flight of candidates might well lead the field. And there are a numâ€" ber of "dark horses" further down the list who are likely to be well up in the standing on Monday. municipal building as well and truly cpened. With the change of date for the formal opening of the new town hall, the date for the LO.D.E. tea was also changed to Friday, June 3rd, from 3 â€"to 6 pm.
