ADVANCE 71mm. ONTARIO i0 1‘10 11‘ have i and town may - Mr. I is On Monday there was a caucus of the Conservative members recently elected to the Legislature. the purpose being to decide on the leadership and otherwise to make plans for the future of the Conservative party in Ontario. Reports about. this caucus suggest that it was a lively affair with much dis- cussion. One story has it that Hon. Mr. Rowe roundly condemned the “old Hon. Earl Rowe on Tuesday after- noon was unanimously chosen as the Conservative candidate in the Dufferin~ Simcae Federal by,-election. and be ac- cepted the nomination. Dufferin-Sim- coe is the Dominion House seat that Hon. Earl Rowe resigned to run for a seat; in the Legislature at the pro- vincial election this month. “Only a Girl" before the Guide Com- pany in uniform sang their Guide Song before ‘"I‘aps"~So-ftly falls the light. of day. Hon. Earl Rowe Stili Leader of the Party Will Reorganize From Top to Bottom From Outside. To Be Federal Candidate Again f A really enjoyable little entertain- iment was put on last Saturday night at the Dome Community hall by the Dome Guides under Captain Leiterman. It was a wretched night but the,ha‘.l was well filled nevertheless and every gone present thoroughly enjoyed the lit- gtle affair. Under Mrs. W. H. Johns’ idirection a series of slides of the Coro- nationâ€"iii colourâ€"were shown, and , were quite good. . Beatrice Penningtonâ€"~24. Elsa McDonnell and Margaret Foster with Elaine Leiterman. A mummers’ dance by four Guides. A monologue by Elaine Leiterinan on “Washing Dishes." Elaine is a budding elocutionist. and in a long and clever monologue which was interspersed by various 3 ecimens of literatureâ€"chiefly poeticalâ€"she showed that she has de- cided talent in this direction. Her entire absence of self-consciousness is to be commended. a Guider Marjorie Costain acte chairman and the following progra was given:â€" Capt. Leiterman welcomed the audiâ€" ence. and appreciated the encourageâ€" ment. given by the presence of so many. Capt. Leiterman is to be congratu ted on her nice little concert. 1f terward duet by I‘E Timmin ,ap dano rammc guard." all of whom. however, were returned by their own constituencies. ' The story goes that. when Mr. Rowe emphasized the idea that the “old guard" were keeping the party in the shades of opposition. the reply was to lthe effect that the people who knew them valued them enough to return them to the House. Of course. these reports are not. in any way official. ' and there may be nothing to them. but the length of the caucus indicated that there must at least have been a lot of discussion. The official announcements 5 in the matter are so meagre that there 1 is little wonder at the fact that rumours :and reports are many. It would appear I that Hon. Earl Rowe is not taking the easiest Or the best way in not making 'a very full and complete statement. It would seem a. fact. however. that Hon. Mr. Rowe has been prevailed upon to Icontirue as leader of the Conservative party in Ontario. and that he will seek f to lead the party in the province, while holding a Dominion seat. Hon. Mitchell lHepburn did this. but the answer to that is that Hon. Mr. Rowe would cheer his followers more if he struck out on his own lines. without too much thought of the precedents set by the present premier. It seems plain from ,the reports that appear credible that Hon. Mr. Rowe asserted himself at the caucus and made his position very lclear. He had lost in his contest for a seat in the Legislature and was not ready to slip into the House by any side door as it were. He also pledges to 're-organize the party from top to bot- :tom and to get it away from any im- proper control or influences. If he is‘ successful in the by-election, he will? é SAVE MONEY THE IN)\\'\‘F.\I.I. OF BRITISH BLACKSHIRT CHIEF HEATERS, last year’s type reduced 20 p.e. It is understood that the matter of the necessary House leader for the ses- sions was not decided upon, this being left in abeyance. Hon. Geo. Mr. Rowe. but that he declined to accept. preferring continue as Federal member. while an- ing as leader of the provincial party. This is to hold until a convention of the party can be called and the ques- tion of leadership decided by the members from all sections of the pro- Vince. In the meantime. Hon. Mr. Rowe agrees to continue as leader only on the condition that he is left free to carry on in his own way to build up the party in the province on right principles. It is stated that he had his resignation all ready and presented it to the caucus. but was prevailed upon to withdraw it on the understanding that he should have his way in the 39 THIRD AVE (’USHIONED ACTION WASHERS Westinghouse 3.75 Lynch Electrical Appliance Co.
