South Porcupine Group of Britishâ€"Israel Truth A wire was received this morning canâ€" celling the Football Dominion Cup game to have been held at Kirkland Lake toâ€"day between Dome and Kirkland. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Thomas, with sons, Sidney and Kenneth left on Sunday on a months‘ holiday, by motor in the States and other points south. During their vacation they will visit at the home of Mrs. Mrs. Cox, Port Colborne, who was at one time resident at Dome Extension. The Rebekah Lodge will hold no more, meetings until the Fall. COn Friday night invitations had been sent to the Oddfellows‘ Lodge to join the ladies in a social evening at the hall and alâ€" though the number responding was not as great as on previous occasions, a very pleasant time was enjoyed, the guests playing bridge after the meeting. Mrs. Montross won first prize for bridge for ladies: Mrs. Spitz and Mrs. Thomas having the same score for second which Mrs. Thomas won on a cut. Mrs. Curtis won consolation. Mrs. Anthony playing as man took first prize for men with Mr. L. Sauder coming second and Mr. W. Farrer gaining consolation. A speciâ€" ally nice lunch was served on this o¢â€" casion. JUNE 28TH, 1937 Mrs. Charlotte McQuarrie, of Miain St. is leaving town on Monday to take up residence with her son, Stanley, in Quebec. Mrs. McQuarrie is an old resiâ€" dent here and her many friends will be very sorry to lose her, and will wish her happiness in her new home. Mr. and Mrs. Stan Pearce, and Famâ€" ily are leaving on Wednesday for a holiday in Hampton Beach, New Hampâ€" shire. They are travelling by motor and expect to be away some weeks. Mrs. Bigelow, of Shillington, was visâ€" iting friends in town this week. Mr. Arbour, of Penetang is visiting his brother Wm. Arbour, for a time. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Cameron, of Main St., are leaving town on Wednesday to reside in Timmins. The strawberry supper held on Friday evening in the United Church was a pronounced success. The ladies of the Guild had worked hard cooking and preparing for the event. _ Strawbenry shortcake was the outstanding feature of the menu and it was much enjoyed. The takles were prettily deccorated with daisies and California noppies, the yelâ€" and white looking very pretty and inviting. Mrs. Weir, president of the Guild and her helpers deserve the sucâ€" cess attendant on the supper as the day was the warmest of the season and must have been a tiring one for them! Mrs. Woodley and daughter, of Toâ€" ronto, are expected at the Woodley home in Lakeview on Saturday on a holiday. "Red" McArthur who played hockey in England last year for Streatham is back in South Porcupine and will be on the Dome Hockey team next season. Among oldâ€"timers expected in the camp next week is Mrs. Reamsbottom, of Kirkland Lake, who was one of South Porcupines early residents. She has notified her intention of visiting friends. Mrs. Wm. Smith, of Connaught Hill left on Friday for a vacation in Aurora, Toronto and Brockville. Mrs. John Reise and daughter, of Praserdale, are visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Montrose. Twelve members of the Fire Departâ€" ment are leaving on Wednesday to take part in the Temiskaming Firemen‘s anâ€" nual tournament at Amos, Que. They have been practicing nightly, and given fair luck, have a good chance of winâ€" ning some of the prizes. Some members will not be going, so the town will have protection in case of fire during their absence. e Mr. Ernest Tupper, who has just reâ€" turned from the far North is visiting in town. The new manager of the Mascioli theatre has taken over his duties here; he is Mr. L. Mascioli, of Timmins. Mr. Quinn. of Toronto, is in town on business, Mr. Wm. Durrell, Sutcliffe Co., New Liskeard, is in town on business with the Preston East Dome. Mrs. Van Rassel, of Kirkland Lake, was visitor at the home of Mrs. H. Smith this week. Miss Lily Linna, of Sky‘s staff, is in Cobalt this weekâ€"end attending a wedâ€" ding. Mr. and Mrs. Arhcie McPhate on Wednesday for a holiday in boro. ‘The Consumers‘ Coâ€"operative tietxr‘s Ladies Guild members held a short business meeting at Mrs. A. Wal!â€" ker‘s home on Connaught Hill on Wedâ€" nesday. After the meeting they adâ€" journed to the hospital to roll bandages for hospital use. The nurses served tea and cakes to the party and a happy and useful evening was enjoyad by all. Miss Rita Woon is leaving toâ€"day (Saturday} for Coldwater to spend the summer with her father.
