The engineer staff of the parent comâ€" pany, Fort Rouille Mining Corporation, will inspect the property as developâ€" ment work advances. uC t EVY ) 1 ‘w‘ Acedac E) w 4 4ns c m perty, states that the shaft has been carried to a depth of 152 feet and a bevel established at 100 feet, where apâ€" proximately 350 feet of crosscutting and drifting have been carried out. The ore zone on this level has been opened up for a length of 120 feet north of the shaft and approximately 60 feet south of the shaft.. Channel sampling reâ€" turned high gold values and indicated that the values were present as free gold, very finely divided. Ore of this type may reasonably be expected to show higher values on mining, Mr. Lesâ€" lie ‘states, than indicated by channel sampling. This work has definitely inâ€" dicated an ore body striking north and south through the shaft area 100 feet in length averaging $14 in gold per ton across a width of seven feet. To Take Inâ€" terest in Other Prospects. Another examople of the fortunes and misfortunes of mining is given in the announcement this week that the Ashley Gold Mining Corporation has decided to close down its Matachewan property, following the exhaustion of the ore in the mine. The situation is explained in an official statement by G. C. Ames, secretaryâ€"treasurer, as follows: "The directors of Ashley Gold Mining Corporation, Limited. have decided to cease all work on the property of the company. This decision was reached after all the claims had been thoroughly prospected by trenching, ard any showâ€" ings that warranted it, diamondâ€"drilled. Good Progress Made at MyLamagque Gold Mines Field advice is to the effect that diamond drilling and surface exploraâ€" tion work is making good progress at the property of MyLamaque Gold Mines, adjoining Lamaque in the Laâ€" maqueâ€"Siscce area of Quebec. It is reported that V. M. Ryan, the comâ€" pany‘s consulting engineer, is expected to return to the property early next week, when a complete report on the work done to date will most likely be made. Considerable stripping, trenching and test pitting has been done which has determined the existence of sevâ€" eral well mineralized veins. Appreciable quantities of free gold have been loâ€" cated in several sections of the ocâ€" currences. On the return of Mr. Ryan it is anticipated that systematic samâ€" pling of the surface outcrops will be carried out and results of the drill core assays will be reported immediateâ€" ly. In submtting the 31st annual report, Dr. 6t. Charles, the president, said there was a gratifying increase in efficiency in the mill handling of ores. He added that since 1918 the company had spent $20,887.359 for supplies and equipment and more than $20,000,000 foar wages. Rivalling and outstripping boom towns of California and Nevada in 1849 in the swiftness of its growth, the town of Bourlamaque, 52 miles from Amos has grown in the past year from a few log cabins to a prosperous town of upâ€" wards of 2,000 population. Located in the Lamaqueâ€"Siscoe minâ€" iny district, 60 miles east of Rouyn in heavilyâ€"wooded and mineralized counâ€" try it has now more than 100 homes, a $65,000 movingâ€"picture theatre, sturâ€" dilyâ€"built school, and a modern business block, and miles of prospective streets wilil shortly be under construction. Building $100,000 Hotel Flown from Ottawa to Bourlamagque by John Pauquier last week, J. P. The nearest railway station to the mining centre is Senneterre, 20 miles distant, and at present considerable passenger and express transportation is carried on by ‘plane. Expect 5,000 Population Business and mining interests of Bourlamagque express confidence that the town‘s population will reach the 5,000 mark within a few months. Proprietary Mines Doing Unique Work Proprietary Mines, Ltd., is probably cne of the most unique mining operaâ€" tions in Canada, having in its portâ€" folio large share interests in two imâ€" portant mine Ooperations. ‘complete owrership of a third property and a 50 per cent. inrterest in a fourth proâ€" perty. In addition to its mining acâ€" tivity the company owns outright three power developments and a flourâ€" ishing townsite. Thus Proprietary is a holding and operating company, a hyâ€" dro electric operator and owner of a rapidly expanding townsite. Omega Gold Mines, in which Proâ€" prietary holds a dominating intserest, is probably the most important of its holdings. The company is currently treating approximately 400 tons of ore daily and it is expected that this will be increased to between 500 and 600 tons in the not distant future. Of equal importance to Proprietary is Kerrâ€"Addison Gold Mines, which holds considerable promise of developâ€" ing into a large tonnage proposition. It was recently estimated by officials that there are 13,000,000 tons of potenâ€" tial ore above the plain level. A 50â€" ton test mill is now in operation. The Harrisâ€"Maxwell property, wholly owned by Proprietary, has been develâ€" oped to a depth of 500 feet, dewstering and rehabilitating of the underground workings have been completed and equipment has been ordered for exâ€" tensive development. A large tonnage of ore averaging $10 in gold per ton has been determined from the surâ€" face to the present bottom level of the shaft, and in this connection negoâ€" tiations are now under way for mill cperation. Many Activities, Includin Power Development an Townsite. A group of approximately 40 claims, located midway between the Kerrâ€"Adâ€" dison and Omega properties, in which Proprietary holds a 50 per cent. interâ€" est, will be under active exploration in the not distant future. A geophysical survey is to be made of this group imâ€" mediately. In regards to the power developâ€" ments the Raven power plant is in operation, supplying power to Larder Lake City, Kerrâ€"Addison and Harrisâ€" Maxwell Mines. Seyeral other contracts are pending. David Ross, consulting electrical engineer, estimates that an expenditure of $12,000 would place the Corset power development in operaâ€" tion. Preparations are proceeding in this regard and it is expected that the plant will be ready to operate towards the latter part of the current year. The company‘s Wendigo power site is capable of developing 8000 horsepower, It is the intention of officials to place this plant in operation next year. Larder Lake City, Proprietary‘s real estate investment, has a population of 500 people and is steadily increasing. Electric power is supplied by one of Dewatering Polaris to be Finished Toâ€"day theâ€"company‘s power developments. Examination and Sampling to be Carried on by H. C. Lane. the geological survey of PoAaris that has been in progress for the past two As soon as this work has been comâ€" pleted and holes spotted an extensive programme of diamond drilling is to be commenced. This is to be in addiâ€" tion to underground woOrk. Lakeland Calls Meeting to Approve Noranda Deal Lakeland Gold has called a special general meeting for Sspt. 30, when shareholders again will be asked to consider an agreement between the company and Noranda Mines, whereby the latter will take over and develop the property. At a meeting held July 3, the majority vote required to ratify the agreement was not obtained, due to one group of the shareholders sugâ€" gesting that a better deal might be obâ€" tained. Those opposed to the Noranda deal, however, were unable to. carry out their plans and a new meeting is called at which shareholders will be asked to approve the Noranda agreeâ€" ment. The Noranda interests extended the time limit on ts agreement toâ€" October 1. Luxor Plans Campaign in the Red Lake District Luxor Red Lake Mines has retained J. E. Sheppard, M.E., to take charge of exploration work on the property in the Red Lake area, offiials state. Mr. Sheppard has had considerable exâ€" perience in the Red Lake area and is familinr with the Luxorâ€"claims,â€"eight of which have been patented, and he will explore a sheared zone where ecarâ€" lier work proved good gzology and mineralization. Test pits will be sunk on large mineralized dyke .,having width of from 40 to 50 feet, already stripped for 250 feet. Further stripâ€" ping will also be done which will likely be followed by diamond drillingâ€" to test cut the vertical and lateral extensions of the showing. Other showings and some copper occurrences on the proâ€" perty will be examined. f Highâ€"grade Samples from Week‘s Run of the Press ‘Toronto Telegram:â€"What Agnes Macphail discovered in Russia will not make our louder Reds any more anxkâ€" ious to accept the offer of a on\,-way ticket to Moscow. â€"~Huntingdon Gleaner:â€"Lecturer in} education told the City of London vaâ€" cation school for teachers recently the story of a boy of 14 who admitted he could not read. ‘"My brother can‘t read either, and he is at work," said the boy.
