In most cases the accused persons had pleaded guilty and paid fines. A. Monville, of Barber‘s Bay, pleadâ€" ed gililty to having liquor in his possesâ€" sion not acquired on an individual perâ€" "What did he have?" asked the maâ€" gistrate. "One pint of moonshine, your worâ€" ship," replied Provincial Constable J. W. F. Pretorius, producing a ginger ale bottle full of clear alcohol. Monville was fined $100 and costs with the option of three months in jail. He chose the jail. "I didn‘t understand I could do that." "Didn‘t you just lay the charge so you could get the car fixed?" "I don‘t care if I don‘t get m cent," Christoe replied. The damage done had amounted to $23.10 "approximately," he said. Robar was dismissed. One man told the could he had gone into his uncle‘s store to pay a bill and had asked why the bill had been sent him. The uncle called him names and slapped his face. "I went away politeâ€" ly," said the nsphew who had charged his uncle with assault. The old man paid a fine of $10 and costs. He chose the Jaill. Joseph Emile Bernier also paid a fine of $100 and costs for having had liquor illegally in his possession. He was also fined $10 and costs for reckâ€" less driving. Court Isn‘t Collection Agency "You can‘t use this court for a colâ€" lection agency. It don‘t like this busiâ€" ness of laying charges when you can‘t collect and I won‘t stand for it," the magistrate told Douglas Christoe, who had charged J. H. Robar with reckless driving. Mr.iChristoe had left his car on ‘Cedar street between Third and Fourth avenues on Friday afternoon, he said. Someone came into his shop and told him his car had ieen damaged by another one that he later believed to have been Robar‘s. Christoe had gcne to see Robar that night "Jjust to see what he was going to do about it," he told 5. C. Platus, counsel for the accused. "Why didn‘ the first place him. In ahother assault case, a man pleadâ€" ed guilty to having kicked a child, "beâ€" cause he had come into my yard and beaten up my boy." He too was fined $10 and costs and warned not to kick children. Nick Petro and John Boterolt, chargâ€" ed with stealing four chickens a couple Oof weeks ago, were remanded until next week. Sunday Gamblers Fin«d Five Timmins people, one of them a woman, found by police gambling in the rear of a Wilson avenue store on Sunday night, pleaded guilty to that infraction of the laws of Ontario and paid fines of $10 and costs eachâ€"an expensive evening‘s sport. No Sign of Letter Boxes for Timmins Timmins has been waiting patiently for those 12 letter boxes the Post Offics Dept. at Ottawa promised to instal "early in the year." Nothing has y°t been heard about them either here or anywhere else, so far as The Advance was able to find this week. It was understood that the Postmasâ€" ter General had provided for the money necessary to instal the boxes in the last estimates brought down in the FPedcral house and Timmins really did expect to have the letter boxes by pe time summer â€" came. Nowâ€"well,‘ maybe they‘ll be ready for the Christmas rush. No One Seems to Know When They Will be Installâ€" ed on Timmins Streets.
