Nelson testiâ€" fied he had been approached by his employer, Sol Silver who had, he said, offered him $150 to drop a match in the tractor shed. He told the court he was employved off and on by Silver and «ince he could not get on relief he felt his only chance of keeping in good with Silver was to do as he was asked. Polâ€" lowing repeated requests by Silver and urging by his wife he had finally done the jo>, he testified. W. J. Grummett, appearing for the accused, made a strong plea for leoniency on the grounds Nelson had very willingly given the police information in this case and others and that due to the fact Nelson was out of work and unable to get reâ€" lief the tomptation had been very great. Provincial Constable J. Allan Stringer, who conducted the investigation, asâ€" sisted by Chief Ed Olaveson, Iroquois FPalls, testified as to Nelson‘s coâ€"operaâ€" ticn during the investigation. In clostd court the same afternoon Nelson‘s wife, 22, and her brother, L. Bar, 21, pleaded guilty to a serious charge, (incest), the former being sentâ€" enced to 12 to 18 months in Andrew Mercer reformatory, Toronto, and the latter to three years in Kingston peniâ€" tentiary. Mrs. Nelson also pleaded guilty to an abortion charge and was sentenced 12 to 18 month, the sentencec*s to run concurrently. Three Nelson children, 5, 3 and 1‘% years of age will be taken care of by friends and relaâ€" tives under the direction the Children Aid officials. Assistant Crown Attorâ€" ney Chas. Yates prosecuted. Pilador Desnoyers and R. J. Neddery, were each fined $500 and 3 month on charges of breaches of the Customs Excise Act. Desnoyers pleaded guilty cn two counts and was sentenced to six months additional in lieu of payâ€" ment of the fine and Neddery was sentâ€" enced to three months additional in lieu of payment, being convicted on only one charge. Both are second offenders. Neddery is 64. The arrests resulted from investigations by Corporal H. J. Nelson, R.CM.P., who was assisted by Provincial Constable J. Allan Stringer and Chief Ed Olaveson, Iroquois Falls, in making the arrests at the old Nellio Lake landing on the Abitibtâ€"river, where a still and quantities of mash and spirits were seized. Neither were represented, Neddery conducting his own defence. Corporal Nelson pros®â€" cuted. Anthony Blais, Ansonville, was conâ€" victed of ostaining relief from the township of Calvert to the extent of ©5.05, while employed. Permitted by Magistrate Tucker to make restitution he preferred a jail sentence and was given one month. In juvenile court two young boys pleaded guilty to stealing a sum of money and were given a kindly warning by the magistrate that a second offence must result in an industrial school term. The father was ordsred to make reâ€" stitution. During the summer months there will be a change in the hourse at the clinic, Fifth avenue oppositqg St. Mary‘s hospital. June 29th (Departm:ont of Game and Pisheries) With the bass season opening last Saturday, fishing generally will be in full swing throughout .the province, Thousands of resident anglers and visitors will be combing our lakes and streams in search of those gamey fish for which the waters of the province are so justly famed. It seems an opâ€" portune time, therefore, to draw to the attontion of the public the desirability of obviating waste and eliminating exâ€" travagance in connection with the takâ€" ing of game fish. The comervation of these resourees is an important factor in ensuring their perpetuation and a continuation of the recreational pleasâ€" ures which the sport affords. Conservation! in its sense and as applicd to our wild life resources means, among other things, the wise Need Coâ€"operation in Conserving Fish Department at To ronto zShows How All May Assist in Preserving Game Fish, Law breaking is very often the reâ€" sult of thoughtlessness. When the fish are biting there is a great temptation to keep on "taking" just as long as they will strike, regardless of limits or the personal needs of the fisherman. Creel limits are quite generous, ‘but are inâ€" teonded as a regulatory measure, and not as a goal to strive for. Do not make a practice of supplying a mess of fish to all of your neighbours and mcnds The fish that are biting toâ€"day and which you leave in the water after your needs have been supplied, will be biting just as briskly toâ€"morrow, or on some future day, and you will want to go fishing then also. If such restraint is exer« cised, much waste will be eliminated and future prospects will be that much brighter. The advent of the automobile and the development of the tourist traffic have resulted in very heavy demands on the resources of the waters of the proâ€" vince, particularly in respect to the more popular of our gams fish. As supply and demand are inseparably reâ€" lated, it will ise obvious that good fishâ€" ing will depend on the wise use of our resources. The efforts of the departâ€" ment are being bent towards maintain#* ing the supply through an extensive restocking programme. The suceess of these efforts will depend to a large exâ€" tent on the coâ€"operation of the public. Fishing is one of the finsst recreaâ€" ticns available to the sportsman, and these suggestions for the conservation of time resources which make it possible, are embodi¢cd in the code of sportsmanâ€" ship. ' If you are a nonâ€"resident of the proâ€" vince, be sure to provide yourself with a license. These are available as indiviâ€" dual and family licenses, and possession thereof will save you any embarrassâ€" ment when the game makes his rounds. If you catch undersize fish, be careâ€" ful to release them without injury, if possible, and after wetting your hands. The latter is a very necessary precauâ€" tion because it prevents rubbing off the protective coating which shields the fish from external disease. 30 THIRD AVENUT New Beautifier for Fingernails Garage 123 Wilson Ave. Removes Cuticle Without Acid; Without Cutting Timmins PAGr FIVE $1,00 $1,50 PHONE 648 for Aade ight
