The concert opened with "O, Canâ€" ada," followed by an orchestral overâ€" ture., "The Caliph of Bagdad." Then the orchestra played the "Prelude" and the "Doge‘s March" from "The Merâ€" chant of Venice." A ‘cello solo by Mr. Pospishel, of Timmins, was wonderfully rendered and well received. Stella Anâ€" drochuk gave a soprano solo. A hornâ€" pipe nocturne from "Petite Suite" by the orchestra came next. Mr. Michael Rose gave a wonderful solo on the vioâ€" lin, and Mr. Peter Boychuk‘s solo on the Hawaiian guitar was exceptionally well done. Our native, Mike Kostynyk, and his sister, Natalic, gave the Rusâ€" sian folk dance in costume which is always a treat, being performed with grace, precision and accuracy by this gifted little couple. Two more orchesâ€" tral pieces and Gog Save the King finâ€" nished the concert. Handsome New Hotel at South End... Other South Porcupine News Items. Perhaps the fact that Christmas is so near caused the poor attendance but it is to be hoped that this orchestra will not be discouraged, but will at some future time repeat the concert into which so much time, effort and talent have been put. As between fifty and sixty chlldren were being taught in the little old schoolhouse at the Dome in the cramped quarters there, the teachers appreciate the facilities offered by the new hall, and the kindness of the committee in being alloweq to use it.
