A gentleman named Ridley fell 160 feet down the shaft at the Davidson mine ten years ago, striking the timâ€" bers twice on his way down, yet miraâ€" culously escaping any serious injury. The worst injury sustained was a badly crushed hand. A young fellow in town for some time encountered Chief Greer and Deputy Chief Salley ten years ago on a vacant lot in Mattagami at an unseasonable hour in the early morning. He had a grip and some bundles with him and the police were too curious about the contents of the bundles and grip to accept the young man‘s story that he was simply moving his effects from one shack to another. When he eventually opened the grip and a quantity of highâ€" grade was found, the young man‘s exâ€" planation was not very explanatory.
