The story coming from Kirkâ€" land Lake is to the effect that in the play at the Finnish hall the young lady was supposed to be shot by one of the actors. In the effort to make the inciâ€" dent realistic a real revolver was used with powder and a blank cartridge. This might have passed off without unâ€" toward accident, but unfortunately the actor stood too close to Miss Wallsten when the shooting took place. The gun was quite close to her face and belched fiame as the trigger was pulled. Miss Wallsten did not get the full force of the charge of powder in the face because she was holding her left hand up to her face to simulate terror. But she was painfully burned by the flame and pellets of the powder were driven below the skin aof her face. Dr. R. H. Armstrong was called at once and took immediate steps to lessen the pain. According to The Northern News, while a great deal of the powder has been removed, Dr. Armstrong says that there are some pellets which cannot be taken from under the skin and that as a conâ€" sequence they will mark the young lady‘s face for life, which seems to be a special pity in view of the fact that she is a particularly attractive looking girl. !__When fire recently broke out home of H. J. Anderson at En Pretty Kirkland Girl Marked for Life in Play Everyone will regret the accident to the young lady, but at the same time the incident will call up the question: "Why is it necessary to have this reaâ€" lism with firearms in connection with Finn plays?" It might also be asked if there were any illegality in the preâ€" sence of the revolver at the Kirkland Lake PFinn hall. Some years ago, shortly after there had been "demands" made in Timmins by Finn organizaâ€", tions several rifles were noted being taken into the Finn hall at Timmins. Engquiry of the police elicited the inforâ€" mation that the rifles were only to be used in a Finn play. The explanation was satisfactory to the police but to many it seemed absurd that actual rifles were thought to be needed in a case like this. Many people would like to avoid any chance of "accident" from firearms used either in plays or otherâ€" wise by associations of foreignâ€"born not friendly to this country. The Adâ€" vance does not know whether the Finn hall in Kirkland Lake is a meeting place for disgruntled aliens or not, but it does seem that the use of fireâ€" arms in such cases might well be checked up by the authorities.
