When the! two men were all ready to start on their wagon trip to the North, the Humane Society inspectors stepped forâ€" l ward to confiscate the team which had been condemned as unfit for use. The men were worried badly about the upâ€" sot of their plans thus brought about by the trickery of the men who sold1 them the team. While search was beâ€" ing made for the vendors of the conâ€" demned team a Torontsos moving conâ€" cern volunteered to give the two famâ€" ilies free transportation. Other genâ€" erous Toronto concerns provided food ar.d clothing for the trip and scon the families were ‘better off then at the start. Indsed, it is certain they could never have made the trip with the team bought. They have likely escapâ€" ed a serious situation somewhere along the road. In the meantime, howsver, they have already arrived at Matheâ€" <on, safe, sound and well and being generously treated all along the route. On arrival at Matheson they were lookâ€" ed after by the government officials who secured a place for them to live unitil spring when they can take up land of their own. In the meantime they are comfortably located for the winter on the farm of a settler near Matheson. Hanover Post:â€"A Milverton man and his wife showed stuff at 21 fairs th‘is vear, winning 182 prizes, of which 84 were firstst Amchow or (her, we can‘t believe that smallâ€" town fairs were intended to create such openings for professional exhibitors. Word was received here this week that the men were on syrike at the bush camps at Smooth Rock Palls. ‘The men were said ‘to be demanding the same conditions as recently agreed upâ€" on at Kapuskasing. Such demands do not seem to be unreasonable at that, though no one would encourage strikes at this time. However, from a letter received this ‘week by The Advance from Geo. L. Weldridge, of Timmins, who worked for a few days at the camps, the conditions seem to need inâ€" vestigation. If conditions are as Mr. Weldridge paints them, then the authâ€" orities should take prompt action not cnly to have the conditions righted but also to see that there is no more of this sort of most objectionable treatâ€" ment of men. The strike should be made the reason for a complete invesâ€" tigation. If conditions are not as deâ€" scribed then this should be made known. If they mre anything like as bad as Mr. Weldridge says then action is certainly called for. Mr. Weldridge says he could only stand the conditions a few ‘days. There were no blankets for the men though it was very cold. The can:o buildings let in the weather. Water wes not available for washing, hands and faces having to be cleaned in snow. There were no benches and men had to stand up to eat as well as oiten waiting long for meals. The men slept on the iloor of a newlyâ€"built shack. As Mr. Weldridge says this sort of thing is simply begging communism. The charges in the letter have been called to the attentinn of the authoriâ€" ties by [The Advance, and it is up to the authorities to either verify or disâ€" prove the case. If the facts are as stated, then the strike should be settled at once in the right way.
