I am not in any way writing this letter from a political standpoint but as I have been provincial representative since the first of December, 1926, a detailed statement should be given to the conâ€" stituency of this riding as to where and how money has been spent on road work. During the years 1927 and 1928 the system as then carried on by the Department of Development did not keep separate the amount of money that was spent in the districts of North and South Cochrane. You will recall at that time we had only one district engineer, Mr. Harry Duff, who had charge of both these r‘dings. The expenditure in each riding for these two years would run into the neighâ€" bourhood of $350,000.00 per year each. If you will take the total of the enâ€" closed statement which runs $2,940,â€". 713.51, add to that the $700,000.00 which was spent approximately in the years FON 13 Ferguson Highway Timminsâ€"Porquis Junction Rd Teckâ€"Larder Lake Rd. Kenâ€" ning, MP.P., for South Cochrane ridâ€" ing, explains itself and certainly gives facts and figures that are most interâ€" esting and informative. In giving out this irformation in the easily underâ€" stood form in which he presents it Mr. Kenning is following his usual practice of keeping the public fully informed on public questions of interest. Unempoyment Relie{ nt undist ributed Expenditure Again thanking you for your kindness in publishing this statement, I beg to remain, My one reason for furnishing this statement at the present time is to bring before the public the cost of building roads and the gigantic effort that is being made by the present govâ€" ernment to develop a country, of which we, citizens of the province oi Ontario, have an unbounded faith. To those of this riding who should at any time deâ€" sire any information with regard to this as to where certain amounts of money have been spent, no matter how small, I will be only too pleased at any time to furnish this information zrrom my office in this town. The personnel of our nermanent disâ€" trict staff, at the head of which is Mr. Donald Lough, is second to none in the Department of Northern Development. We have three district inspectors who have a great amount of experience in road building in the North and who have ever since I have been member given me all the assistance that is in their power. 19827 and 1928 you will find that our expenditures ran, since October 31st, 1926, to about $3.640,000.00. Since the 31ist of October, 1928, which is the end of our fiscal year we were allotted a district engineer of our own, whose work covered the riding of South Cochâ€" rane exclusively, and it is covering the expenditures subsequent to this date that the attached statement refers. There are in this district close to seven hundred miles of road of which almost two hundred miles are mainâ€" tained daily.
