The High School field day held on FPriday last was another wonderful sucâ€" cess. The weather though cold was clear and the pupils entered into their sports with a zest. The principal and his able staff of assistants are certainly to be congratulated on the smooth and efficient way the day‘s programme was carried out. This year the pupils were divided into junior and senior competâ€" ing groups according to size, and, curiously all four championship went to Form II. Senior girls‘ champion was Woneta Blood, 20 points; Junior girls‘ champion being Catherine Foster, 33 points. There were two charges against Nick Pauff, 68 Pine street, south. One of these charges was for the alleged illegal possession of liquor and the other for obstructing the police. The police claim that liquor was found on the premises, though neither Pauff nor his wife have a permit, and also that Pauff tried to hinder the entry of the officers and their search of the place. Both cases were adjourned to next week to allow for analysis of the liquor seized in the visit to Pauff‘s place. A Balsam street man faced two charges of breach of the Highway Trafâ€" fic Act. On the one charge ‘he was fined $10.00 and costs, and on the other $1.00 and costs, the nonâ€"observance of the iaw thus proving a very costly proâ€" cedure in this instance; the total exâ€" pense, to the offender being over $25.00. Anothner offender under the Highway Traffic Act was fined $10.00 and costs. In juvenile court the last of the four boys convicted last week of stealing from T. N. O. cars recently was dealt with. This lad was allowed to go on suspended sentence, but must make restitution to the extent of $14.55. He will also be on parole for a year, and his liberty will depend on his future good conduct. Timmins The charge laid on Sept. 2nd against Laura Larocque, 5 Kirby avenue, for illazally having liquor, after several adjournments came vnerore the magisâ€" trate on Tuesday. She pleaded guilty to this charge and was fined $100.00 and costs, the fine and costs being paid forthwith. In the meantime, however, on Oct. 2nd, another similar charge was preferred against her. This second charge was laid over for a week, the accused being allowed her freedom on her own recognizance. Another case of illegally having liquor was that against Frank Pictila, 21 First avenue. The case against a man by his wife for nonâ€"support was adjourned until called on. Another husband and wife case was adjourned to next week. seraphin Drouillard, of Windsor, cbharged by Officer H. Allen, R.C.M.P., with violation of the Excise Act, was remanded for another week. At police court this week Pete Thelin, a Russian, was charged with assaulting Pete Dmyterko, a fellow countryman. A call was sent in to the police in conâ€" nection with this assault and Thelin was locked up for the safety of others and himself. He madge such an outâ€" rageous racket that it was decided to change him to one of the front cells whete his noise would not disturb others in the jail who wanted to sleep. While being transferred from the one cell to the other Thelin sunk his teeth into Sorgt. Craik‘s leg, making such a wound that the sergeant had to have medfral attention. Thelin also sunk his teeth into Sergt. Craik‘s arm makâ€" ing another nasty wound. At court on Tuesday Thelin was assessed $20.00 and costs, or thirty days, for his assault on Dmyterko, while for his vicious assault on Sergt. Craik he was sentenced to three months with hard labour. As a consequence he will spent the next four months in jail. A woman who left her husband, takâ€" ing away with her a trunk to carry some effects was charged with theft of the trunk.
