Annual Meeting of Mclintyre Porcupine Twentyâ€"first Annual Meeting Last Week at Toronto Given Much Interesting Information. Taxation a Heavy Impost on Mining Industry. Last week despatches from Torontc said that shareholders of MciIntyreâ€" Porcupine Mines were told that the mine has produced $60,003,000 in gold. when they met for the 2ist annugA meeting. The directors were reâ€"elected and the business of the meeting was purely routine in character. President J. P. Bickell, commenting on the fact the company had reached its majority, out the mine had furnished sufficient ore to wear out one plant and justify erection of the new and modern plant. To date over $60,â€" 000,000 in gold has been produced, with 50 per cent. secured from outside proâ€" perties which were acquired in the course of expansion of the company and now contain threeâ€"quarters of Mcâ€" Intyre ore reserves. Taxes a Barrier Touching on the high rate of mine taxation the president declared that at current rates imposed by federal, proâ€" vincial and municipal authorities Mcâ€" Intyre was paying the equivalent of 15 per cent. of operating costs, over 13 per cent. of all earnings and approxiâ€" mately 25 per cent. of taxable earnings. These imposts he believed to be a barâ€" rier to mining in the province and to be out of line with those on other inâ€" dustries. He hoped under normal conâ€" ditions steps would be taken to eliminâ€" ate inequalities. HMold Relative Positions ~ General Manager R. J. Ennis reviewâ€" ed results and reported that the proâ€" phyry stocks which have such importâ€" ant ~geological significance for McInâ€" ~Discussing the annual report he said the average yield in the last fiscal year was down 29 cents per ton if figured at standard value but up a cent if premium was Included. If taxes were excluded a substantilal decrease in unit costs was realized in the new plant and that furâ€" ther economies were expected. Despite the lower grade of ore handled profit, after adding premium and deducting depreciation, etc., was up four cents a ton. Porcupine Advance For Sure Results . . The inside shaft : being sunk below the 3,800 level is down approximately 4,400 feet below surface | and should Teach its present objective of 7000 feet towards the latter part of 1034. First three levels will be estabâ€" lished at 150â€"foot intervals but subâ€" sequent horizons will be at 125â€"foot inâ€" | tervals, after the schist is reached, with main haulage levels establishec : every 375 feet. As a result of a thorough geological survey «wdditional ore has been found in the old workings and further investiâ€" gation in this direction will be underâ€" taken. McIntyre has 60 miles of horâ€" izontal workings, 42 miles of which are being kept open at a cost of about 10 cents a ton milled. The management is anxious to draw all the ore possible from many of these levels and then abandon them. Mining Average Grades In answer to a question Mr. Ennis explained the company was not taking advantage of the premium to draw on low grade ore but was still mining the average grade sent up from stopes. The McIntyre property, he said, did not lend itself to selective mining, ore grade and occurrences varying to too great an extent. No drilling has been done below the 4,000 level the last year. Hamilton Spectator:â€"A committee on illiteracy in the United States finds that 4,000,000 people of that country can neither read nor write, and the rub, Oof course, is that there aren‘t enough government jobs to accommoâ€" date them all. The only outside properties held by the company are 240 acres adjOining the Howey at Red Lake, 120 acres at Birch Lake in the same district on which $10 ore had been developed over narrow widths, and 24 claims in the Swayze area. Recently by tax sale Mcâ€" Intyre acquired 120 acres north of the main property, though neither acquisiâ€" tion is contiguous to McIntyre. Just before the meeting adjourned President Bickell stated in answer to a question that the company investment portfolio "shows a very substantial proâ€" fit over original cost of anything taken hold of."
