Mr. and Mrs. Ewing and little daughâ€" ter, of Minneapolis, visited Mrs. Ewing‘s sister, Mrs. Leiterman, and other Dome friends last week. In the softball ieague schedule being off at the Dome the winning streak of the Mine team snapped off this week and it went down to defeat twiceâ€"on Thursday before the Mill, and on Monday by the Engineers. The Mill started off Thursday‘s game in real whoopee style, scorimng eight times in the first innings. The Mine tied the score, then went one better in the fourth, but the Mill again had a frenz in the fifth and brought in six more, running their total up to fifteen. At starting whistle. Burns ran out to stop Lloyd Doran‘s low drive. Comâ€" bined play, Parsons to McLean to Mitâ€" chell, beat Burns again. Information sent The Advance inâ€" cludes the following:â€" More than 10,000 admissicr been nade to Red Cross outpost ten years of their existence. L there were 2,630 admissions. From Redd‘th, the farthestâ€"flung outâ€" post, comes an account of a night‘s work. The report is written by the pitals," Dr. Routley said. ‘"They are staffed with graduate registered nurses and have modern surgical equipment. Operating, as they do, at a loss, with three exceptions, these outposts are givâ€" ing serious concern to the Red Cross at this time." Since 1922, Canadian Red Cross socieâ€" ty outpioasts have provided 133,149 days hospital care to patients. In 1931 they gave 29,176 days care. Durfing the past six months they have provided 16,685 days care. At the present moment there is need for special consideration of the work of the Red Cross in its effort at these outposts, as The Advance this week reâ€" ceived the suggestion from the Ontario headquarters that confronted with the steady growth of activities and a deâ€" crease in revenue, the Canadian Red Cross Society (Ontgrio Division) toâ€"day faces the possbiility of closing one, if not several, of its outposts in the outâ€" lying districts of the province. Acâ€" cording to the information sent by the latter from headquarters, Dr. F. W. Routley, director of the Ontario diviâ€" sion, is quoted as saying:â€""All but three of these outposts are operating at a financial loss. Deficits must be made up through voluntary contributions and the province in general and the pioneer settlers of Ontario in particular would suffer beyond measure if this frontier phase of the society‘s work is curtailed in the slightest degree." On the conâ€" trary there is really urgent need for the extension of the single nurse outpost, Dr. Routley says. Cost of maintenance for each paâ€" tient per day in Red Cross outposts last year, was $4.85, a figure higher than maintenance costs in city hospitals,‘ where larger numbers of patients deâ€" crease the total cost of hospital upkeep. !
