Gilbert, r.f. Boyd, s.s. so far has been along the line that cerâ€" tain people have paid stated amounts to the chief or magistrate for fines and costs, while the returns to the Crown have indicated lesser amounts, usually two to ten dollars less. Neither the chief nor the magistrate‘s side of the case have been given yet. There is an array of counsel for the different parâ€" ties concerned. The chief line of deâ€" fence, until the chief and magistrate give their own evidence, is along the line that the whole matter has been due to illâ€"will and that witnesses have been induced to give evidence with the idea of discrediting the authorities. One witness told about being offered money to give evidence or secure eviâ€" dence, but refusing. The reports from the session on Tuesday indicate that the past record of Councillor PFennessey was being brought forward. On the stand he admitted having served time for a serious offence and also being in court on another charge that of pointâ€" ing a revolver at a policeman. "It was his own revolver," he said on the stax}d. ‘The conviction against Fennessey was in 1906. These delegates were from all over the United States and Canada. Reg. Smith, viceâ€"president of the Timmins Kiwanis Club, is the delegate from the local club. This is the 16th international convention of the Kiwanis. It is inâ€" teresting to note that Detroit, this year‘s convention city was the orginal home of Kiwanis, the service club beâ€" ing founded there 17 years ago. The address of welcome to the delegates by Joseph G. Prance, organizer of Kiwanis, and the first Kiwanian, was heard by fully 5,000 delegates, who showed their appreciaticn and support in no uncerâ€" tain way. MORE THAN FIVE THOUSAND AT THE KIWANIS CONVENTION Red Gardner;p the Kirkland Lake wildcat, and Lou Long, Ottawa chamâ€" pion, are down for four rounds. Huzgh Rocks, Kirkland Lake, anc Benny Dougherty, of the same place, will battle for four rounds. This is said to be aq grudge fight so it ought to give the fans some thrills. Gordon Bovin, of Sudbury, and Kid Johnson, the Timmins Wildceat, are to figscht a fourâ€"round feature. Attractive Boxing Here Dominion Day The proegramme as announced inâ€" cludes:â€" Fither Arthur Leonard, of Timm‘ins, or Jack McCann, of Rouyn, in a fourâ€" round encounter with Henry Bussineau, Jack Dempiey‘s former sparring partâ€" ner. It was intended to have Joe Thomas, Timmins championship heavyâ€" weight, take on Bussineau, but this being impossible now arrangements are being made for Leonard or McCann to fill the bill. In any case it is expected to be a gocd exhibition. Roddy McDonald, former lightâ€" heavyweight champion of Canada, will take on a fourâ€"round battle with Bill Richie, Rouyn‘s coloured flash. Al. Roche, Timmins middleweight, and Bill Thompscn, of Kirkland Lake, will have a bout of four rounds. Thompson knocked out Kid Williams, so this feaâ€" ture should be good. The stream of transients coming into Timmins continues, though there is no work here and already there are literâ€" ally hundreds here unemployed and with no chance of getting a job. _ It looks as if a few prosecutions for vagâ€" rancy would be necessary to stop the influx into town, other warnings being rancy would influx into t disregarded. In front of the houses owned by Mrs. A. Courtemanche on Wilson aveâ€" nue, some shade trees were planted and these promised to add greatly to the appearance and comfort of the homes concerned. Some mean outfit, however, has deliberately broken off some of these trees, thus wantonly destroying them. Such an act could do no one any good, while it is a serious harm to the property and a loss to all concerned. Effort has been made to fix up these properties and have them look as pleasing as possible, and it is discouraging, to say the least, to see the gcood work wantonly and senselessâ€" ly destroyed. The person or persons who will do this idictic form of damâ€" age should be examined for their saniâ€" ty. In any event they are not fit to live among normal people. Youngsters are usually ‘blamed for this sort of thing, but in this case there were eviâ€" dences to show that the guilty "kids" were at least thirty years old. It is to be hoped that any guilty of such wanton meanness may be caught and adequately punished. How Can People be so Mean and Contemptible? Kishbaugh and H and Burke. Thkharalle and Ma and H.
