If it is not the fact, the railways should clear their skirts by letting the truth be known. Colour was given to the belief that the whole scheme was simply Toronto highâ€"presâ€" sure salesmanship under false pretences by virtue of the fact that heaps of advertising literature was distributed in the North immediately before the excursion. Then the trains themselves were loaded with more advertising of alleged bargains from Toronto stores. The whole thing would not have been so "bad, if people~fim~"the North â€"eould not have done better by "buying at home." However, the amount of purâ€" chasing done by people from the North in Toronto was not so large as the Toâ€" ronto highâ€"pressure salesmen expected. The greater part of the excursionists went simply for the trip, to visit friends, ete., and to take advantage of the cheap fares The whole affair iNuâ€" strates the fact that the railways could get the business if they showed enterâ€" prise enough, and they would not need to lend themselves to the superâ€"salesâ€" men and their schemes for the undue advantage of Toronto.
