HOLLINGER _ â€" STORES LIMITED intere uests a Youn nt Thursday and Friday, October 1 and 2 Hollinger Stores Limited News of a rich gold discovery on the property of the Roullard Gold Mines at | Clearwater Lake in the Patricia disâ€" | trict was received last week at Haileyâ€" bury. The information was sent by Ben Roullard to kis brother, Phil Roulâ€" lard. Ben has been prospecting on the Clearwater Lake claims for some time lpast and the find now reported is one |of the good things discovered. The |\information reaching Haileybury last ,:week was to the effect that a new break, eight feet wide, showing six feet iof quartz rich in gold, has been unâ€" covered and traced for a distance of f1,200 feet. Samples are said to be on ! their way down from the claims and these will be assayed after they arrive in Haileybury. The results of the assays and other particulars will be awaited with much interest. There has always been much interest in the Clearwater Lake area and prospectors are of the opinion that it will yet make lgood. Following a special boom in Red Lake the public seemed to lose enthuâ€" siasm and Red Lake has been quiet as a consequence. Many feel that Red Lake was too enthusiastically boomed for a time and that a reaction set in, |but that the country has the goods and will yet be developed to the advantage of all concerned. : Mr. and Mrs. Jos. The opening up of the James Bay country by the construction of the exâ€" tension of the T. N. So far as the land above high tide mark is concernâ€" ed the Ontario Game and Fisheries‘ Act is in force, but beyond high tide and on the islands of James Bay and on the shores of Hudson Bay the North West Territories‘ Act applies, and the cost of hunting licenses is very high under this act. Accordingly there will be more than passing interest in the announceâ€" ment made last week that the first whist drive of the season under the auspices of the St. John Ambulance Brigade will be held in the Hollinger Recreation hall on Friday evening of this week, Sept. 25th, commencing at 8.15 pm. ‘The Ambulance Brigade inâ€" tends to hold a whist drive every seâ€" cond Friday this season. The event toâ€"morrow night is the first and it is intended to have it specially attractive The prizes include:â€"$15.00 for the highest score in the room; $5.00 each for the first lady and the first gentleâ€" man; two second prizes. The prizes will be in the form of vouchers that may be spont in any store. One rule that the Brigade wishes to have parâ€" ticularly understood is that no one will be allowed to start after the first hand has been played. It is well as a conâ€" sequence for all to be on time, so that the event may start on the dos and everybody have an opportunity to take part in the contests and have a chance at the prizes offered for the occasion. The New Liskeard Speaker last week says:â€"‘"A partridge has been seen in different parts of the town, on Farah avenue, and on Wellington streetâ€" well, not exactly parading the main streets, but on the grounds adjoining. It is a very beautiful bird, we are told, and has attracted much attention at the homes where it has been seen."
