Dome football team were not so forâ€" tunate in their game at Kirkland Lake on Saturday last. The first pericd ended 1â€"0 for the Dome, Whyte havâ€" ing made the sole tally of that half. The second period saw the playing very evenly balanced. After fifteen minutes of play the left back of Lake Shore twisted his knee and had to go out of the game. Then the Dome had their bad luck in the last seven minutes. Crawford gave a corner which Conâ€" nelly put into the net for the Lake Sshore. The last goal was really scorâ€" ed by the Dome right back against themselves through a mistake. Just before the whistle blew for time Mcâ€" Murray in goal for Lake Shore made a most spectacular save off Whyte‘s kick and was given a round of applause. This was the first game of the Ontario Cup. The return game will be played at the Dome recreation grounds on Saturday, August Iist, the kickâ€"off to be at 6.15 pm. It promises to be a real game. The teams lined up:â€"Iroquois Falls â€"catcher, Trottier; pitcher, Wilkes (Lefebre); 1b, Crotin; 2b, Johnson; 3b, Yurinâ€" chuk; s.s. Fortier; fielder§, Lefebre, Nault and Simpson. Dome Minesâ€" catcher, McCann; pitcher, T. Parsons; 1b, Burns; 2b, Johns; 3b, G. Michaelâ€" son; s.s., Catarello; fielders, Richer, H. McLean, D. Parsons. The umpires were Kerr, of Iroquois Falls and H. Miller, of South Porcupine. The first three to bat of the visitors went down. Catarello was first up for the home team, Michaelson next. Catarello sinâ€" gled to first then while Michaelson was still at bat stole second, stole third and stole home. Michaelson made a twoâ€"base hit and then got homes before the next three went down. In the seâ€" cond issue Lefebre let Fortier in from third and by timely stealing of bases tallied himself before Trottier was fanned. Poor fielding and an error by a baseman let the Dome have their next two runs. In the third innings Lefebre was put in the pitcher‘s box for the Falls team, but T. Parsons, Mcâ€" Cann and Burns all got runs off him, Burns getting a threeâ€"base hit. Yurinâ€" chuk by some agile work made the home plate for the visitors in the fourth. Catarello made the only tally for the Dome. Then in the fifth Burns started the ball rolling when he trotted home. Johnson came after him being let in by errors of the visitors‘ baseâ€" men. D. Parsons, Catarello, Michaelâ€" son and T. Parsons all trotted home as each batter in turn seemed to find Lefebre. In the sixth Nault went into the pitcher‘s box. One of the nicest bits of work done during the game was Johnson‘s catch off Burns, far back in the outfield, with one hand. The visitors piled up four more runs when they went to bat in this inning, Wilkes and Johnson making twoâ€"base hits each, later reaching the home pan. Nault and Crotin also romped home. But the lead gained by the home boys was insurmountable so the Iroquois Falls boys had to go home nursing defeat. Mr. H. Anthony and family are visitâ€" ing with his brother, Mr. E. Anthony. Miss Valerie Rapsey is home after having successfully passed her Normal School at North Bay. She has since been visiting with her grandfather at Mattawa. Mrs. Bonny and two children, of Hamilton, and Mrs. Murley and child, of Cochrane, have been visiting their mother, Mrs. Childs, who has been ill. Mr. Cecile left this week for his home at Pembroke. Messrs George Humphreys and Frank Leal of Kirkland Lake were up for the weekâ€"end. Her friends will be glad to hear that Mrs. A. Philiban, Second Ssouth In the softball game last Wednesday evening between Cochrane and the Exâ€" celsiors, Cochrane was three short of their regular players, thus making their team very light on catching, the sceore being 19â€"3 in favour of the Excelsiors. There was considerable discussion, ro waterwork extensions. The height of some of the hydrants above the surâ€" face of the road in places was discussâ€" ed. Where shutâ€"off taps are extendâ€" ing above the level of sidewalks they are to be shortened. The water exâ€" tensions passed on before are to be proceeded with at once. On Strachan avenue the new sidewalk is to be built outside the line of the telegraph poles, thus leaving a little mor» frontage for some of the residences. It was decided to hold civic holiday in Tisdale on the same day on which Timmins was holdâ€" ing it:â€"Monday, August 3rd. Repairâ€" irt; of lold sidewalks in both Schumacher and South Porcupine was discussed. It was decided that where they can‘t be repaired at once and they were worn out enough to be dangerous to traffic that the best plan was to pull them right up until new ones could take their place. This would avoid acciâ€" dents. Water for Gold Centre took some time to talk over. There are twenty families in there now and no adequate water supply. The creek is fed by diamond drill holes but they don‘t supply enough and the quantity is lessening so this supply could> not be counted on. It was decided that to drive down a sandâ€"point would be the least expensive and one of the surest ways of securing water. The repairing of the dock on Porcupine Lake was discussed. Some thought thas it would be used just for a short spell now and was an expense that could be avoided. It was decided that governâ€" ment aid to fix this dock might still be forthcoming. Forcupine Lake is the only airâ€"port available in camp. The widening of Coniaurum road was deemed necessary. The buses will soon be running on this road probably. The reply to the letter from Sault Ste. Marie re a council for the North was discussed. . Councillor Kerr thought that their interests not being identical with ours that it was to a certain exâ€" tent to strengthen their own wireâ€" pulling. It was remarked that Tisâ€" dale had had so little consideration from the Ontario government of late that we need do something for ourâ€" selves. Combined action should acâ€" complish more than individual efforts. However none of the council seemed inclined to go as a delegate so the matter was dropped. The grass is to be cut in the cemetery. Captain Manson Smith, of the Fire Dept., arranged for the necessary cars to transport the youngsters to and from the picnic grounds. Capt. Smith had his own car on duty for the occasion and in adâ€" dition interviewed others who gladly did this trip for the youngsters. Those supplying cars were:â€"Capt. Smith, A. G. Luxton, Walter Ecclestone, Gordon Pooley, A. G. Carson, and A. Mascioli. Mr. Luxton also stayed with the party for the day and did a lot to give the youngsters a big time. There were thirtyâ€"five youngsters enjoyed the big day a Bayside Beach, which is ideal for picnics. There was a little rain on the trip out, but as all the cars were closed ones this did not matter. Arâ€" rived at Bayside Beach there was only about half an hour of rain all day and the children enjoyed that time in the big hall where there was music and games to amuse them. The rest of the day was spent in outside games, use of the swings and teeterâ€"totter on the grounds, bathing, swimming and boat rides, not to mention a full course dinner, with everything from meat or fish to ice cream and watermelon, and a lunch later in the day. The Districs Children‘s Aid Society is grateful to those who supplied cars for this annual picnic for the youngsters and also to Bayside Beach for the excellent food and accommodation supplied. One of the best softball games played here this season was played Tuesday evening between the McIntyre and the Excelsiors, the score of 1â€"0 proving that the players were at their best. The piitchers for both teams, Bessie Bugera and Quanta Baldovin baffied the batters many times with their pitching. The catchers, Irene Hadley and Mattie Oloutier, did not let any balls pass. A large crowd turned out to see this game and were not disapâ€" pointed. The McIntyre have won all the games so far and only one more to play for the cup.
