He was charged with vagrancy, and evidence secured by the police showed that he had been begging money and making threats if the money was not forthcomâ€" ing. At police court Wednesday evenâ€" ing this man was senienced to two monhs. He had talked meekly to the police, but when the sentence was anâ€" nounced he was inclined to be impuâ€" dent with the magistrate but was very set in his place, and by his pleading escaped further sentence than the two months for vagrancy. One ot the tricks alleged against this man was he entered a poolroom, secured some boulles of soft drinks and tenderâ€" ed only five cents in cash and some threats in payment for the govds. On Tuesday evenâ€" ing ithe police received the first comâ€" plaint on which they could act, a man saying he had been robbed of $6.00, and describing his assailant, the description agreeing with that of one of the wild men from the West. Constables Gauâ€" thier and Landriault went out and picked up the man described but when he was safely landed at the police staâ€" tion the man who was robbed could not identify him so he was aliowed to go with the warning that this was not a lucky town for wild men. Wednesday, the police were notified cof the beggars stop;i.ng motorists and using abuse if money was not forthcoming. A search was made for the men, but they ccould nc be located until just before six o‘clock when Constable Gauthier noticâ€" ed one of them in an old car containâ€" ing three cther men who did not lock like wellâ€"dressed persons. One of these fellows was said to have boasted abou! handling four policemen at North Bay, and what he was going to do to the Timmins police was a shame. Then reâ€" ports came of men stopping automobiles and asking for money to buy food and if refused curses and abuse woere showâ€" ered upon the motorists. Unfortunateâ€" ly, the motorists concerned did not make complaint to the police until Wednesday and as the wild and woolly fellows did not do anything or say anyâ€" thing before the police, the latter had no cause for action.
