It appears that he was in-I jured while at his work as lineman, the pole on which he was working falling; to the ground and crushing him beâ€". neath. It would seem that the pole: was not deep enough in the ground or that it had not been fully anchored. In any event it fell and Guigere had his hip crushed as a consequence. He _was fortunate perhaps, that his inâ€" juries were not more serious. He was taken to the Hearst hospital as scon as possible, and all possible care and atâ€" tention given him there. He was in the office of the Times. It was like a sacred hierarchy; and they wore top hats. They took life very liesurely government office sort of way. They sat and waited for news to come in. Ssometimes when news came in it did . not quite fit their concepstion of what news was respectable news, and it was kept out. He remembered that on one occasion an elephant has escaped and was roaming the strets of Brixton. The subâ€"editor thought perhaps a runâ€" away elephant was not quite respectâ€" able. He put the news on the "spike," and was known thereafter as "the man who spiked an elephant."
